Callie had stayed up when James was having one of his really bad nightmares. She knew that it was a touch and go time and he needed all the help he could get when Steve was stuck away. She let him climb into her bed with her; knowing that nothing was going to “happen” but allowed herself to gently run her fingers through his hair, and tracing a finger against his stubble. 

When she let him explain about this particular nightmare, she planted careful kisses at first on his cheek, before she went to the bridge of his nose, as she spoke in a soft soothing voice, “It’s okay James.. I’m here.” she told him before she planted a careful and soft kiss on his closed eyelid. 

“you know I’m not going anywhere... and i’m not going to break that promise for as long as I can help it.” she said as she brushed his hair off his forehead to carefully plant two more careful kisses; one on his forehead, the other to the top of his hair as she held him close, feeling his arms wrap around her as she held him.

She just rolled off her stomach after narrowly missing getting blown up in an explosion outside of the nearest building, gritting her teeth as she tried to get her bearings around her. 

“If you’re nearby James, I could use some help..” she said through her grit teeth, “I think i’ve been hit.”
