Purple is "We were never friends." while Red is "It's just a rough spot. The wedding is still happening."
I really love the final voting with Red as the tiebreaker. Because it really had to make Red choose. The sycophantic yes-man who agrees with everything they say and makes them feel good about themselves and every decision they make, who never challenges Red or makes them reflect on themself—
— or someone who knows them. Someone who knows the ugliest, most selfish, most cowardly parts of Red, who forces Red to come to terms with the worst parts of themself, who dares Red to be fucking better because it's the right thing to do and they actually believe Red is capable of doing it, should be capable of doing it. Someone who cared about Red so much that that trust, belief, and betrayal almost ruined their life.
If Red had actually gone against MIRA and sided with Purple, Red would have had a hot, brilliant corporate rebel spouse and a little mini Crewmate baby named Magenta by now, just saying.
Post-Skeld CameraCap where Red notices just how much danger Purple puts themself in. The last fight with Green was a clue, but now that they're on their own Purple puts their life on the line for everyone: other Crewmates from other crews, getting ahead of MIRA goons just to prove a point, saving Red's ass.
And it's pissing Red off bcos Purple's gonna end up dead if they keep doing it. (Doesn't Purple know that Red needs them alive?)
The only reason Red offered Purple a job is because they knew that if they let Purple get away now, Purple will never want to see them ever again.
Red and Purple kissed once when they were interns as a dare or a joke or bcos they got drunk, whatever, but Red still thinks about it.
There's something about how Red takes every one of Purple's suggestions and ideas. Yeah, it's bcos they're "the Captain" and Red wants to appear capable and reliable, but what does that imply, when most of everything they do and say come from Purple?
(Also, if they hadn't had their falling out, Red would be such a "yes, honey" kind of spouse. Purple practically runs the ship bcos Red just agrees with whatever they want and say.)
Even if Red kinda doesn't like Heracles, they still try so, so hard to get Heracles to like them. Partly bcos they're starved of approval but also bcos Purple cares about Heracles, and since Red cares about Purple, they need Heracles' approval, too.
