They say what goes around comes around, and Voguing is no exception to that rule which is why this Tuesday we're highlighting a house of trailblazers who helped put vogue culture on the map with their inimitable presence on catwalks, in documentary films, and studio portraits from photographer Chantal Regnault's "Voguing and the Ballroom Scene of New York City 1989-92" (Call #: 792.8097 R264v)
This amazing book features photographs, interviews with legendary children from the era, personal essays, and event flyers. Without giving too much away let's just say this title had us gagging (don't worry, that's a positive thing in ballroom-slang!) and the reads were excellent. We give it 10s across the board and invite you to play judge yourself by asking for it at the 3rd Floor Page Desk.
Featured is a 1991 family photo of the Pendavis House from left to right: "Anonymous" Pendavis, Butch Icons Kim and Reece Pendavis (founders of the predominantly Women & Butch family, House of Tuscany), Transgender Male and Ballroom Legend Kym/Kim Pendavis (of Paris is Burning infamy), and Legendary Queen & House Mother Avis Pendavis seated center.
