today’s music rec: it’s missing CHUNGHA hours so here’s a great choreography moment from “i’m ready” (highly recommend watching the spectacular video in full).
she’s the dancing queen with perfect song production (see “stay tonight”) that we do and don’t deserve, and i feel like considering her an informal pride icon - whether as an ally or part of the community - is not far off the mark because no one else embraces and executes voguing concepts quite like her (”stress” mv is so overlooked, she made a yoga class strike poses 😭), it’s always been uplifting. her background dancers are 50% slaytastic girls 50% femboys, you just have to respect the hustle. her hongjoong “eenie meenie” and sunmi “salty” collabs were so bisexual i started levitating.
i also love chungha because she always goes off like a beast in her legendary music videos (”bicycle” had us talking for weeks) and everything looks absolutely stellar. i’d even rate her as a successor to BoA and a contemporary to exo KAI’s visceral type of expression, chungha is barely 5′3 and a real machine herself. and i just love invigorating and glamorous ‘taeminesque’ solo performers who can belt like that. chungha could easily do MOVE or WANT and taemin could do ”snapping” just as well, that’s how you know 💡
hopefully one day chungha and her quality won’t be pushed into oblivion by the industry anymore - let’s be honest, it’d be a damn shame if she already peaked with “roller coaster” and ”gotta go”, there’s so much more chungha can show, and more cultural visibility she can reach - so she can use her full potential, because we will be there 🎉
