Ori Gersht
I really like this still life by Ori Gersht. Ori Gersht, born 1967, is an Israeli fine art photographer who is currently a professor at the university of creative arts, Rochester. He works with theme of life, death, and violence. Gersht’s work often alludes to the violence he experienced first hand during his childhood in Israel. He composed this image so that our eyes follow the curved line of the fruit and vegetables, when all of a sudden you notice the exploding pomegranate. This sudden violence shocks the viewer and represents the speed at which conflict can come about. I like the idea of hanging objects off of something out of the frame like Gersht does in this image as I think it creates an interesting visual effect.

The photographer has re-made, so to speak, old still life compositions but rather than copy them exactly they have made them better represent the times that we live in. Food and meals have lost their significance over the years and the photographer shows this in the top image by placing the food on paper plates rather than fine china. From fancy and valuable to bland and disposable. These images, whether placed next to the originals or not demonstrate a passage of time and therefore changes in attitude. The bright vibrant colour palette paired with compositions reminiscent of paintings that are hundreds of years old assists this demonstration.

I really like this still life photograph. I like the idea of using a chessboard and pieces in my still life image as they both are symbols that contain a lot of potential and meaning. I also like the chequered pattern as it creates a interesting visual effect. The birds eye view employed in the above photograph is a good choice because it shows the whole board and everything on it which is whats important in this image.
Some little recycled planters for the seedlings and garden <3 Some propagating too!
One man's trash is another man's treasure
Everyone of us has came across that table, old bag of clothes, or broken chair that is no use to us anymore. The first thing we want to do is just throw it out in the trash, trust me I have been in that situation before. Except for me I hated to just throw something out so I would hold on to it even if I wasn't using it. Then I learn about www.freecycle.com, this is a site that you can find a local freecycle in your area and sign up to it.
I have joined mine and I have found homes for so many things that someone could use. If you are on a tight budget and you really can't afford much at the Goodwill then this is a great place to look. Everything that goes up on the site is free and given away to others who can use it.
Just because you don't want it doesn't mean that someone else won't either. So join your local freecycle and start saving.
