Just got home from comic con and it was great. I'm too tired to write a long post but I got feedback from Tylar Chin Tanner over at A Wave Blue World, Kieron Gillen from Image Comics, Tim Seeley, Fernando Ruiz from Archie (though he's my narrative art teacher from first year loloololololol), Nicola Scott (who LOVED my colors and referred me to a guy next to her, he loved my colors and apparently works for a major Australian comic company- he wants me to send him samples of coloring! xD), Dustin Nguyen, and Ivan Reis! While I prefer to do pencilling than colors (unless I'm doing my own thing like a cover ala Adam Hughes), it totally is a good way to break into the industry as I refined my pencillers and improve my technical drawing.
The overall consensus was that my pencils were better than my inks, I should work on my inks and rendering, my storytelling is solid/very good, and my colors are great! Also I need to work on stuff like anatomy and proportions and stuff but that was expected.
I really liked that Fernando and Ivan took the time to focus on my inks and talked to me about them while the others kinda skipped over them when they were like 'yeah your pencils are better and I can tell you want to be more of a penciller'.
Fernando really talked about the line work and to get smoother lines and to watch the weight of my strokes. Things like that, Ivan mentioned that too though he talked more about rendering and the transitioning between the whites and blacks could be better (ie the feathering), and basically about spotting blacks. I really liked that honestly because it's one thing I have trouble with!
Actually Nicola Scott and Tim Seeley mentioned my line weight too with the pencils and that they should be more varied, fair enough because they're right. :3
Anywho, I bought a sketch book from Ivan Reis and he did a quick Wonder Woman sketch. I noticed that, along with his tight-page pencils he has, he's also selling roughs of pages too and they're at a much, MUCH cheaper price and yet they're still beautifully done and tight. They're also something a bit different than what most people see so I think tomorrow I'm shell out the cash for one! (That's right bishes, BE JEALOUS)
Also, since I'm officially going back tomorrow for the school field trip, I'll be hitting up the last few artists I want to see: Ben Templesmith, Shane Davis, Adam Hughes, and Greg Horn. After that, a lot of talking to indie publishers!
Also, I met Yurble there, they were so sweet and adorable and precious!!! ;~;~;~~; <3
Okay I love how I said I'd keep this short but LOL oh well.
Pics of the Ivan Reis sketchbook to come in the week.
P.S. OH YEAH, also had him sign my vol 2 of my Sinestro Corps War TPB ;)
