This is a portrait of the late Palestinian poet and professor of English Literature at the Islamic University of Gaza, Dr. Refaat Alareer (1979- 2023).
On December 6th of last year, professor Alareer was the victim of a targeted Israeli airstrike, which also resulted in the killing of his brother, sister and four nephews.
The kite in the background references Alareer's last poem before his untimely death, "If I must Die."
