ignore my last post i found something to think about
ok so percy in new rome, we all know it, some hate it some love it (i personally was never the biggest fan) now i saw this post by phoenixystix and while 99% of it doesnt match with what im saying im still putting it here,
it made me think about how percy, in my rewrite, would think about new rome hed love it, like he does in canon, obviously its a place where you have the chance to grow old, you can stay in the mythological world with the people you love and without worry, i still havent decided if new rome in my rewite is gonnna be made up of child soldiers, but if they are then hes heavily conflicted on it, but unlike in canon the thought of living at new rome, or even going to nru, hardly ever crosses his mind, for a few reasons
he dropped out of school after the last war. the two wars are 2 years apart, and with percy whos hates school his entire life, planned to die for a year, and moved to greece after the war, the thought of going back to school sounded like an actual nightmare. if he does ‘go to school’ (and this is most likely whatll happen) then itll be like half baked online school that you do 2 days for 4 hours a week so very different from a normal school life, because the thought of that makes him sick
he didnt actually get taken here. hera left percy alone, and nico was instead the one who was taken (not actually fully set on that, but i do know percy wasnt taken) so he didnt have the ‘no memories’ experience of new rome he had in canon, nor did he ever actually get a strong emotional connection to any of it
and this is the biggest reason, hes terminally ill. it was a big part of why he stopped going to high school, his body is activley deterorating. after the second war his illness only gets worse, to the point where he needs mobility aids to get around almost all the time because of how much he pushed himself during the war not only is it the actual pain and physical inability to be able to go to school the way hed potentionally want to, but its a terminal illness, after the second war he only has a few years at most in his mind, going to college would just seem like a waste of time considering he most likely wouldnt be able to do anything after it, and an unessecary amount of pain and lack of energy would come from it
