do you have any tips on writing kidfic? your oc kids are always so cute and funny <3
thank you so much! okay, so, let’s see.
I have an advantage because I’ve got a 6 yr old and a 3 yr old at home, so basically I’m a pro at toddlers purely based on observation. Biggest tips for those are - get your developmental stages straight, so you’re off on the right foot. 6 mo to a year, you’re working from crawling to pulling up to a stand to shaky walking. Most kids can say one or two words by 1, but honestly the only thing they SHOULDN’T be doing is speaking in full sentences until they’re, like 2 to 3. My youngest was stubbornly speaking in grunts and annoyed noises last year, and now you can’t get him to shut up about anything. And he’s ALWAYS RIGHT. And has temper tantrums CONSTANTLY. He flips out over flushing the toilet, walking up stairs, shutting the fridge door, the dog licking him, basically anything you can think of.
biggest tip - they’re tiny angry humans with an early bed time and like getting up at the crack of dawn and almost always have snot running out of their noses.
Teenagers are fun because they’re only slightly larger angry humans that need a lot of sleep. I call on a lot of my remembered teenage insecurities and melodramatics.
I’m so bad at giving coherent tips! Feel free to either ignore this completely or ask follow up questions, since I’m not sure this even made sense.
