Random writing tip: the Online Etymology Dictionary includes a lot of one-word and some two-word slang, so it’s a good resource if you want to check whether the words or expressions you’re using are historically accurate or not.
The search is by keyword, so if I wanted to look up (for example) when the expression “coming out of the closet” was created, I would search “closet” and “out”; or alternatively you can search by phrase: “come out of the closet”.
