The Quiet Rise of Face-to-Face AI Companionship

A year ago, talking to an AI companion meant typing into a text box and imagining the rest. Lately the experience has shifted, and SweetDream is one of the clearest examples of where things are heading. The platform at sweetdream.ai now offers video calls with select characters, and that single feature has quietly reframed what people expect from an AI girlfriend.

What stands out, observing how users talk about it, is how naturally the video fits into the rest of the experience. SweetDream lets you design your companion from the ground up, her looks, her voice, her backstory, the little quirks that make her feel specific rather than generic. Then it layers on emotionally intelligent chat, lifelike voice calls, and remarkably good AI-generated photos and videos. A live video call becomes the obvious next step rather than a gimmick bolted on.

It's tempting to lump every AI companion service together, but the gap shows up in details like this. SweetDream treats privacy as non-negotiable and treats the video call as something to be done well, not just advertised. The result reads less like a feature checklist and more like a platform that actually understands what people want from this kind of connection.

Protogen Reference Sheet Base WIP! :D

Hey all! Here's an update on my Protogen Reference Sheet Base I'm working on!

I'm about halfway done with the sketch, and I decided that I'm going to add different horns and tails to the base so I can make more unique Protogens! Here's the base with the first tail I drew! :D

I also plan on making a version with double ears! :D

Manokit Day!! :D

Hey!

Today was an important day for me! It was the day I decided to start making adoptables to sell! Back in 2023, the first base I ever made was a Manokit one!

I created the original 20 Manokits and released them the following month! Now, every year on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I spend the evening working on Manokit stuff as a way to remember the night I started working on Razor Ray! :D

Here's what I did this year!

#1: Creme Manokit

I had fun redesigning this one for the sheet! I wanted to try making it more asymmetrical since I tend to make my designs even on each side! :D I think they're adorable and I'm excited to see where they end up going! :D

#2: Yellow Manokit

This one I started redesigning a little while ago, but got caught up with stuff for the sale starting at the end of this week! I decided that there was no better time to finish them than tonight, so here they are! This one is more complex, and I really love the pattern! :D

#3: Purple Manokit

Out of all 3 I redesigned tonight, this one had the most drastic change! I originally planned on making the black parts white, but I think it looks way better with the darker colors! :D I'm super proud of this one!

#4: Green Manokit

I didn't get around to finishing this one, but I finished the head! I didn't change this one's design too much, as I wanted to keep this one relatively simple! You can see the original design in the middle there to compare! :D

All in all, I had tons of fun working on Manokits tonight! It felt good to work on something other than sale stuff for once haha! I'm still so surprised I was able to get this far with my business, especially after only a year and a half! I wanted to thank everyone for all the support! I would never have gotten to where I am now without your guys' support! I plan on bringing even higher quality adopts next year, and I'm so excited to share all my ideas and plans! :D

RRF Shop Update! :D

I've been hard at work finishing things for the 2025 Halloween Sale (It starts on Sunday at 12:00 AM PST)! I'm super excited to release all the new adopts on Sunday, and I hope people like them! Here's some updates, sneak peeks, and plans for the future of my shop! :D

#1: Manokit Reference Sheet Adopts! :D

I took some Manokits off my store since I wasn't too proud of their designs / the base anymore, and I decided to repurpose the unsold ones into reference sheets! I hope to have them up after the Halloween sale! I plan on making reference sheets for other species as well! :D

#2 Protogen Reference Sheet Base WIP! :D

Speaking about reference sheets, here's the front view of the Protogen version! It'll be a while until I finish it since I have a lot of other projects to work on, but I'm very excited to complete it eventually! :D I think this Proto looks adorable!

#3 Chibi Cat Adopts Sneak-Peek! :D

Here's a view of the first four Chibi Cat adoptables! :D I'm about halfway done with them and I should have them completed over the weekend! I'm so happy with how they're coming along, and I think they have some of the best designs I've ever made! :D They will be out for the Halloween Sale along with all my other Halloween adopts!

#4 Pumpkin Protogen Sneak-Peek! :D

Here's the first of four special Halloween Protogens! I had so much fun drawing the vine tail, and I think this guy is adorable! They were repurposed from an old Protogen listing! All the other Protogens found homes, but this fellow was left, and I thought it was the perfect time to give 'em a redesign! :D

#5 Second Skulldog Batch Sneak-Peek! :D

I decided to wait until the last possible moment to take down the old skulldog listing to revamp the remaining ones haha! They only take about 30 minutes to 1 hour to design since I made it easy to colour in the base though, so they'll be released on time! I'm giving each of them a slight redesign since their old designs were about a year old!

#6 Chibi Bat Adopts Sneak-Peek! :D

The Chibi bats are going well! Here's the second sheet of them! I only have 2 more sheets left to complete [6/8 are done! :D], so they're just about ready for the Halloween Sale! :D I'm a huge fan of how #5 came out, I really love Blue/Orange/White colour schemes haha! :D

#7 Wickerbeast Headshot Adoptables! :D

They're currently on my store for $8 each! :D Had a ton of fun designing them, and I hope they find good homes!

New Adopts!

Heya! Long time no see! It's been a super busy month with my shop, and I've been trying to prepare everything for the sale in a few weeks! I've missed the past few Fridays, so here's a post about all the new adopts on my shop! :D I'll also post the links and prices to them all!

Sun Dutchie!

I had tons of fun making this one! I had it on my to-do list for a year and a half now, and I think it turned out super cool! I decided to do a moon themed Dutchie and a galaxy/space themed Dutchie too! I'm hoping to have those two up before the end of the year or early next year! :D

F-35 Dragon! (Edit: Has since been sold! :D)

I had fun with this one as well! I originally meant for this one to be the third Plane Dragon in the collection (out of the now 15 I'm doing!), but I finished the Shuttle Dragon first, who sold the next day! :D

I currently have four down, and I'm working on the A380 dragon and the B737 dragon!

Here's the first Manokit I've made on my updated base! Manokit Day is coming up (The day I decided to start making adopts to open my shop, and they were Manokits! :D), so I'll be making a bunch of Manokit stuff during that time! :D

Ampwave Adoptables!

Here they are! A majority of them are still available, though #11. #14, #8, and #17 have already found homes! :D They're up for $13 each!

I made a bunch of new Ampwaves! :D I don't have much to say about 'em other than the fact that I had a really fun time designing all of them, and I had no idea how much people liked my base for them haha! I've had people contact me about it, and it makes me super happy! :D

Shop Update // Razor Ray Friday :D!

Happy Friday! :D

I've been hard at work this week working on new stuff for my Etsy shop! I'll show some pictures of upcoming adopts, and then I'll share some things to look out for at the end! :D

1] Vision Jet Dragon // Airplane Dragon Batch! :D

The sketch for the Vision Jet Dragon is done! I added some metal details as well as some patterning! I was debating putting an aircraft code on the tail, but decided against it just in case I accidentally put an actual registration haha!

This is the first out of 9 planned Airplane Dragons I plan on releasing by the end of the year! They'll all be released individually, so there isn't a delay on them! I'm hoping to have this one out by the end of this upcoming week if everything goes according to plan! :D

2] Lesbian Pride Dragon Sketch! :D

I'm almost done with all the Pride Dragons! :D After this one, I only have the Gay Pride and Non-Binary Pride dragons left to revamp! I recently sold two of the three pride dragons I had on my store, so I figured now would be the best time to finish this one up! :D

Similarly to the Jet Dragon, I would like to have it up next week if everything goes well! :D

3] Dutch Angel Dragon Reference Sheet Adopt! :D

It's coming along! I think the edits I did to the base paid off because it looks adorable! Again, I plan on converting all the remaining Dutchie Adopts on my store to Reference Sheet Adopts in order to show my current character design abilites! I'll restock them with newly designed ones after I finish the conversions! :D

If I don't get this adopt up by the end of this week, then it'll be up the week after that! :D

4] Manokit Reference Sheet Adopt! :D

Similarly to the Dutchie Adopt, all Manokits will be converted and replaced with newer ones! This one is super cute, but I expect it to take longer due to the waviness of the pattern haha! I currently have two of these in the works! The other one is currently on hold while I finish this one due to the fact that the other one's pattern is quite difficult and intricate haha!

5] The Chibi Cats...!

Haha I know I keep teasing them and pushing them back.. but they'll be here this weekend! :D

I'm on the final few and I've decided to not work on anything else until they're finished haha! I intended on getting them out by Wednesday, but I had a huge wave of commissions on my Etsy store that needed to be handled, so these guys unfortunately got sent to the backburner for a few days! The commissions gave me a chance to step back and rethink how I wanted to design the final few cats, so I've been giving them some extra special treatment!

I'm hoping to have them up by Sunday, if not, then they'll be out tomorrow! :D
