Final for my painting class, also about the creative process. We had to choose an archetype or narrative for the painting, and I chose the archetype of the Mad Genius. Represented as a wizard, the Mad Genius imbues color and detail to a ill-defined world. Mixed media: oil paint, graphite, and charcoal
For this assignment, we needed to create our own take on a fable or fairy tale. I chose to adapt The Bird, the Mouse, and the Sausage, as relayed by the Brothers Grimm. I don't like the original story; this version is one where it ends a little better for everyone involved. I took compositional inspiration from illustrator Jan Brett. Click for higher detail!

En plein air watercolor painting done in a local nature preserve. It was my first time seriously using watercolor on its own (outlines were added in ink pen).
A Utopia project. We had to create our vision of utopia. I took it more personally and combined things I find cozy and interesting. I love subterranean places and blanket forts, so I combined the two with a bit of whimsical and Fraggle-Rock flair. Made with watercolor, alcohol markers, and colored pencils.
The centerpiece of my ceramic work I made last semester: A hybrid bear and chameleon. We had to make a hybrid of some kind that we felt represented us in some way. I chose to combine these two animals because... well duh bears, but I feel like my art is a constant game of "I want some people to see the real meaning but I also want the meaning to slip by others unseen" (the meaning is queer themes). I felt the chameleon encapsulated the mixture of hiding and being visible.
An assortment of things I made in ceramics: A little bowl with a fox in it, a pot with a bear and insects on it, and a little peepy sculpture.
