Reflections On: A New Year, A New Blog?
Hi. I'm Mia. And this is my blog.
It's technically a personal blog, but as I filled my dash with Trinity blogs, my own slowly became saturated with the same three people. I'm totally, and completely okay with this.
In October, I posted this and jumped from 12 followers to 36. It was pretty cool to know that there were a handful of people who wanted to share interests with me. Last Sunday I posted photos from the Portland #NoFilter Show and went from 36 followers to 85. This is almost more than I can fathom. I know that, for many, this doesn't seem like a particularly large number. But for someone who just wanted to look at all the pretty gifs, it's sort of amazing.
Because I have 50 new followers in one week, I want to take a moment and say thank you for following my blog. I hope that you will continue to find things here that interest you.
I've found being a part of this fandom to be an interesting experience. At 24, I'm older than most, and my draw to Grace, Hannah, and Mamrie is just a little different. Younger fans seem to be looking more for people to look up to and, in many ways, emulate. They seem to be looking for people who make them feel like it's all going to be okay. Being an awkward teen can lead to being an intelligent, confident, interesting, adult. As a slightly older fan, I see Grace, Hannah and Mamrie less as older sisters and more as peers. I'm seeking reassurance that everything is okay right now. Being an adult who is still figuring things out, and sometimes just makes things up as I go along, is also okay.
Being a part of this fandom has also been very inspiring for me. I often see things younger fans have written about their struggles, or whatever is going on in their lives, and I remember what it was like for me. I feel almost a bit maternal at times, and want to scoop everyone up and tell them it's alright; this too shall pass. But I can't do that, so I sometimes write things that reflect on my past experiences, and current inspirations.
I don't write regularly because I'm not always sure what to write about. I always have things swirling around in my head, but I want to write things that are relevant and interesting. I'm not in it for the notes, but it really helps to have an audience in mind. It keeps my thoughts more organized and feels more authentic. So now that I have more followers I want to try something.
I'm going to link to two of my posts that sort of exemplify the above.
Giving Yourself Credit and Choosing to Create
If you feel so inclined, you can read them. Then I want to know: is there anything you might like me to reflect on? If something comes to mind now, or in a week, or a month, or ever, just send me a message with a topic. I'd love to start a conversation with all of you.
And if I don't hear from anyone, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and hope that you guys are happy.
