Why do I need to be a reflective practitioner?
A reflective practitioner is a person who reflects on the world and life that surrounds them to be able to gain a deeper understanding, knowledge and wisdom through experiences, in hopes to improve themselves as a person and their actions.
To become a reflective practitioner and thinker there a certain tools we are able to use to assist us in our reflections. In module 4 we looked at the ‘3-2-1 Bridging tool’ a system where we firstly give our initial thoughts, ideas, questions and understanding of the topic through 3 thoughts, 2 questions, and 1 analogy, over a course of time and learning more about this topic we are asked to write down another 3 thoughts, 2 questions, and 1 analogy. Through doing this it allows us to contribute new responses using our prior knowledge and making ‘bridging’ connections to what we have learnt.
In my future career as a teacher it is going to be very important for me to develop and become a deep critical thinker and reflective practitioner as I will have to face a large range of scenarios and will need to reflect upon the way I had dealt with it. I will be able to learn from my experiences in a classroom from reflecting over it which in the long run will improve my ability in a classroom to become a better teacher.
As it is my future job as a teacher I will also have to pass down this knowledge of reflecting so my students will be able to learn the skills to reflect upon situations in their lives and their ability to deal with them. It doesn’t only benefit you in your professional career but it can help you in your everyday life it allows you to become self-aware and helps you develop an understanding of yourself and others.
