Minji Kim and Jeehee Pak participated in the “What Design Can Do Refugee Challenge”, submitting a prototype for an interactive table that brings together locals and refugees and allows them to share food and stories as the table translates for them.

CRAFT & DESIGN EMPOWERMENT Summer 2015, thousands stranded at Europe’s borders on a search for a safe refuge. After the arrival in Germany the application for asylum needs almost one year. One year of waiting to start a new life. While waiting for residence and learning a new language the co-creating workshops can give orientation and hold.

Using the power of crafts, working with your own hands and creating something has a soul healing effect on human being. Beside the training of skills in the workshop, the collaboration has a huge impact on the capability of teamwork and the chance of knowledge transfer. Beside all, craft functions as language and supports a non-verbal communication to cross diverse culture and languages.

The empowerment of the individual is the basis of a participating society. A chain is only as strong as its weekest link. We need to support those who are in need of support to arrive.
