Tandy 1000 (1985) COMPLETED REFURBISH (Only missing keyboard.) My first solo full refurb :)
Okay, for the computer that this is, this is a good price.
These older Dell Latitude laptops have Windows 11 preinstalled so you won't have to wrestle with the OS. You can add more RAM and swap in an SSD fairly easily. They come with optical drives, but the real star of this show is that they come with a full version of Microsoft Office Pro 2021, including publisher.
The cost of the computer is actually less than the cost of the programs, and if you were to get this laptop and a $50 migration program that would move the software, it would cost less than purchasing that Office license.
One of the photos shows that the computer has a 2nd generation i5 processor and that it has a 2011 Dell BIOS but a hundred and fifty bucks for something that works, has a 30 day return policy, and includes the full Office Professional Suite from 2021 is a good deal for someone who might specifically need Publisher.
I'm not super comfortable recommending this computer, I don't think it's a good buy outside of a very specific use case (someone who needs the Office Pro suite), but the seller has high ratings and the computer seems to be functional.
inside my (UNFINISHED REFURB/RESTORE) IBM 5160 (c. 1984)
This refurbished HP is a good computer for the price. The processor is new enough to use Win11 (though it likely doesn't have a TPM; see pinned post for options to install Win11 without TPM) and I like that you can throw in 32GB RAM just for shits and giggles. If you select the options for 8GB RAM and a 500GB HDD the price is sub $200 and upgrade on your own as needed.
whoops, forgot last friday! Have some computers!
If you're looking for an extremely portable laptop, this refurbished Surface Go is a decent option. It has a 10th gen processor and a 2-year warranty, which is good because it is *not* going to be possible to upgrade.
This Dell has no storage device and no OS, but is nonetheless an okay computer for the price; it has a decent recent processor and 32GB RAM, so with a $80 SSD and a Linux install it would be a great laptop.
This SFF desktop is a pretty good computer for the price. It has a recent generation processor, should be fully able to upgrade to Windows 11, and while it has a pretty small SSD and only 8GB RAM it should be easy to upgrade.
This ridiculously enormous 17.3" laptop is also a pretty ridiculously good deal. It has a hard drive instead of an SSD, and I suspect that its construction would make it pretty hard to upgrade to an SSD or add more RAM, but if you want something with a huge screen that doesn't need a ton of power, this is a pretty fantastic price, and includes a two-year warranty.
