an Important Detail is

considering the powers are linked to the body part the scar is on, if you remove it then. well. powers are gone

when celia was a little girl her scars appeared on both of her hands. she had the power to heal stuff so it wasn't harmful at all but, you know, a mutant's a mutant and her parents got really paranoid that they'd get in trouble if they protected her and they got a little Crazy and. chopped off her hands. celia was able to run away and some of the inside rebels found her and saved her and her parents ended up getting arrested anyway bc the police thought they killed her. she got taken out of the city along with will, who's a few years older than her and ever since then they've acted like siblings

celia wears a lot of long sleeves and cloak-like things that dangle so she can try to hide the fact she doesn't have any hands. she eats alone and has little harness things attached to her which have a tiny spike at the end so she can poke stuff and turn pages of books and avery doesnt figure out she doesnt have hands for a good 4 or 5 months after he gets there

will's house acts as an infirmary sometimes bc celia has knowledge of medicine (and later on is able to actually heal people directly) and will knows how to actually apply stuff considering celia can't

velda's house is like. the tech building and she sets up the power for their little town thing

clare's house is painfully and disturbingly empty, considering he's so cheerful and no one else would expect it to be so barren

avery, will and celia live together bc celia and will lived together before, then when avery shows up he has to be around will in case he loses control so will can negate it

velda lives with lionel and sari, and clare used to live with corrina until she disappeared

in the car on the way home i was thinking about how avery is gonna know sari for a while and i was trying to imagine their relationship and it's basically just sari glaring at him from across the room 24/7 and avery trying to bicker with her all the time

he's never gonna get to really know her and that. upsets me 8')

i will explain the basis of refuted

people live in huge cities which are mostly controlled by the corrupt as hell government and they're taught what to think and feel etc, and also when someone is ages 4-19 they can develop a scar-like symbol somewhere on them over or on a body part that grants them superpowers, it's not genetic and there's literally no way to predict it. the people who develop them get called mutants and since people have been raised to think they're tainted then usually if they can't keep it secret then they're arrested and either killed outright or cruelly experimented on

several of them manage to escape the cities one way or another and find out the world beyond is p much ruined. still though they form their own little villages and gather supplies and try to live. eventually the military starts coming out and trying to kill or capture them again even though they're no threat to the city bc they're huge fucking assholes, basically

avery is the mc and he's about 17 or 18 and can produce fire from the symbol attached to his heart. he accidentally. burns down his house bc he can't control it and it goes downhill for him from there

im still not sure if i want avery/celia or avery/will

avery/celia is cute but it's like a sibling kinda deal like he mostly just wants to protect her?? but at the same time i dont really see avery as being attracted to dudes (will is definitely like. at least a 2 on the kinsey scale though)

meanwhile clare/velda is set in stone because i seem to have a weakness for that dynamic or something
