A Regency Self Portrait
Okay, so this is the second portrait of the series, and this time it's time for the wonderful and incredible Arabella Strange.
I've been aiming for the feel of the portrait miniature of the early 18th century, and maybe this was made some time before Jonathan went off to a war
Portrait of the Family of Adrianus Bonebakker with Dirk L. Bennewitz ~ Adriaan de Lelie (1809)
Around 1810, Bonebakker and Bennewitz were the leading Amsterdam silversmiths. De Lelie portrayed both men in a domestic setting with Bonebakker’s wife, his five daughters and his only son. The family is drinking tea, presumably in their house on the corner of the Herengracht and the Reguliersgracht. Bennewitz holds a so-called chestnut vase.
I've been absent yet again, but creating process is a strange thing now and does not come easily.
Anyways, I've decided to revisit the wonderful characters of Susanna Clarke and (perhaps) make a series of portraits, starting with Jonathan Strange.
Today's inktober is a drawing of Frodo based on a regency era portrait. The writing above reads: The Young Master of Bag End. Painted S.R. 1400 at the request of Bilbo Baggins.
Here's the original portrait.
