I hate when people don't get the joy of mischaracterization for fun. Literally the whole point of fanfiction is exploring themes and putting guys in situations. Do I think realistically that Jonathan would have been a virgin? Yeah, I don't think he could have gotten over his dysphoria and fear of discovery enough to let that ever happen. Will I absolutely still write about him getting his back blown out by Mordechai Lukas? Fuck yes because I love putting guys in situations!!! It's fun to think about how they might act!!

Wildcard magshawe post, I was thinking about how different their respective transitions and backgrounds are, at least in my mind.

Jonah came from money. His family supported his education and finances until he left, which gave him a better foothold than I think he would even recognize. They probably wouldn't even know who he was if he ever saw them again, though. Respect was hard won, but he still had people like Barnabas and Mordechai who knew who he truly was and still didn't see him as any less of a true man.

Compare that to Jonathan: Raised in poverty, fatherless, oldest of several siblings. His mother only allowed him to get away with his masculinity because how would her children eat unless she let her eldest become the man of the house? He had to fight tooth and nail to gain the status he holds and he had to do it alone. When he finally tore himself away from his family, the guilt was unbearable.

The first person to know Jonathan's secret was Jonah himself and that was 15 years into his manhood.

It's interesting to see where their insecurities would lie, how they would be jealous of each other in different ways. How bittersweet it would be to finally find someone like you, yet you still cannot relate.
