Just wanted to introduce our, all Haitian, agroforestry team, @agrinatif! Since our beginning in June, we’ve planted well over 500 trees, started two regenerative food systems and aided many neighbors start their journey to a more sustainable path. Just had an awesome visit from @gayounazaire and friends. They left with a bunch of new trees for their home including lychee, starfruit, sugar apple, jackfruit, canistel, Sapodilla, and loquats. A second time finding a crab in my forest, this one looks like a moon crab (Gecarcinus quadratus) but I may be wrong. We are 800 meters above sea level and the nearest body of water is at least a 4 hour, power hike with human legs. However they got here, I’m thankful for the continued proof that a secondary forest can harbor quite a large range of biodiversity. Still challenging to understand why deforestation is still a problem when a forest can literally be created in less than 3 years and become a home and food source for countless animals including humans?
