When synth music was first produced using electronic and digital instruments, not only did it make music cheaper to produce, it also changed the style of all types of music that used those instruments. When we hear an acoustic guitar, we think of a classic style; something that tells us that the music is organically produced. Likewise, an electric guitar adds a bit of noise and distortion, but still retains the idea of a live instrument that is being strummed in front of you. This is not true for digital instruments. We immediately think of something futuristic when we hear the noises of a synthetic drum beat or piano. On the positive side, it lends itself to the idea that music can be progressive. We have taken the ingredients that we already know which exist in the form of vibrations and have synthesized them in a way that sounds much more mechanical and deliberate.
