one through six for Jules \ o /
1. How does your character think of their father? What do they hate and love about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did the father have? Julian quite loves his father. He’s a good man in his eyes, despite his olden thinking. His father does believe in Pureblood supremacy and keeping the Muggle and Wizarding world separated, but he also does not believe in Voldemort’s efforts. He doesn’t think that a war is the way to do that, to reinforce that boundary. Aside from that small tidbit, Jules thinks his dad is basically perfect: he cares for him, spends time with him, spoils him endlessly. He’s aware that a lot of his friends don’t have the best sort of relationship with their parents, and he feels blessed that his is not like that all. The only thing he hates about it is that he can’t share his interest and curiosity about the Muggle world with him. Mr. Fawley influences Julian’s personality and mentality a tad bit. He has this hesitance about sharing his interest because of his father’s ideology, and because of the circle of acquaintances and friendship the family has, Julian has it in his brain that they must all think that way. I think to see the Potters, and Sirius and Regulus, and the Longbottoms break away from that is quite a relief for him. Still, he only ever shares his curiosity with Regulus and his elder sister, because he worries that if he dares tell anyone else, the piece of information will get back to his father.
2. Their mother? How do they think of her? What do they hate? Love? What influence - literal or imagined - did the mother have? Julian adores his mother with all his heart. He takes after her way more: same build, and hair, and wit. His mother was a Ravenclaw actually, so when he was sorted there, it just solidified his relationship with her. Also, his mother, although part of the Pureblood circle (she was a Selwyn before marrying his father), does not exactly agree with her husband about the Pureblood supremacy thing. She is a very intelligent woman, and she does not believe nor agree with the idea that Muggleborns “stole” their magic. She thinks it’s a stupid argument. She knows how evolution works, and obviously that is not how magic works. She doesn’t argue against her husband however. They’ve argued about it once, and they came to a compromise that included him not spouting off his ideas whenever he wanted in the home, and she could let him rave and rant as much as he liked at public events. Julian has come very close to asking his mother about the Muggle world various times, but then he always holds his tongue, in fear that she’ll tell his father. The couple tells each other everything. Julian shares a lot of traits with his mother, so of course her ideas and words influence him a lot. She urges him to pursue his curiosities and interests, and assures him that although many of their friends say the same thing that his father does, does not mean that they’re all like that. Julian constantly strives to be like his mother to the best his capabilities.
3. Brothers, sisters? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings? Julian has one older sister, Ursula, whom he loves above almost everything. She’s his best friend, his confidante, his partner in crime before he starts school and during their summer breaks. He’s the only person who can call her Sully (everyone else calls her Sula or by her middle name, Valentina), she’s the only person that knows absolutely everything about him. In fact, she’s the one who sneaks him Muggle books and music to enjoy. No one thought that they’d get along when he’d been born, but somehow the pair had. He doesn’t ever question it, because the idea of not getting along with his sister freaks him out. Once he started school, they did start to have tiny spats, but by the time she’d left Hogwarts, they were fine once again. There is only thing Julian despises about his sister: how absolutely fake she was around her friends, and family. When with her Pureblood friends, she too ranted about the need of separation, but yet at school, Sully could often be found with a group of Muggleborns, promising them that she saw no real difference between her and them. Even in their own home, Sully agreed with her father when he went off on a tangent, and with her mother when she wanted him to shut up. Julian considers himself an incredibly genuine person, and sometimes he wonders if the love and friendship Sully shares with him is also just a front, just so he’d have her in his good graces.
4. What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient? Fortunately, Julian was a good kid growing up. He kept his adventures hidden away from his parents well enough, and Sully always covered for him whenever he got close to getting caught. There wasn’t much disciplining happening in the Fawley estate, so I guess pretty lenient.
5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered? Oh yes, the Fawley children were very sheltered, and still are in fact. Ursula has gone off and had a taste of the real world, but even upon graduation, Jules returned home and lives with his parents. His father assured him that he did not have to actively start working quite yet, but his mother, knowing her son very well, landed him an apprenticeship within the walls of Hogwarts, in the library.
6. Did they feel rejection or affection as a child? Julian for a very long time only felt affection from his family. It wasn’t until he heard Arthur Weasley talking to Frank Longbottom about a Muggle clock that he, for the first time, felt rejection. He asked his father what that meant, and how it worked if Muggles didn’t have magic, to which his father answered with a rant. His mother quickly came to his salvation, scolding Mr. Fawley to talking to their child like that, but that stuck to Julian. He learned to keep his mouth shut about the matter, and he still firmly believes in that.
