Fun post going around asking what we call different things in different U.S. regions.... and like... First off, wtf is an “Otter-pop” it sounds cute... But like, it’s just a popsicle... But I think Popsicle is an actual brand... Which, incidentally falls victim to the funniest southernism of them all... The General Brand-ism... by this I mean, all adhesive bandage strips are ‘Band-Aids’, ALL soda is “Coke” and there’s a few others I’ve certainly forgotten....
Here’s a list of wild things that seem central to my region (The hilarious thing is that due to my location... We’ve also thrown in some Midwest-isms... We’re a mixed bag):
Hair Tie= ponytail holder
Pigtails= Dog ears (I haven’t heard this in a while tho)
Shopping cart usually equals buggy
All soda is “Coke” (although some of the older folk call it “Pop”
All frozen ice treats are “Popsicles” even the ice cream bars
Catalytic Converter = Cadillac Converter (It’s a car part)
It’s Ford or Chevy... No other brands exist... Even if you drive something other than a Ford or Chevy... It just doesn’t exist... I feel like it’s a big divide that is very central to my neck of the woods.(I’m interested in knowing if it’s an actual thing elsewhere... Like, we are very Ford vs. Chevy... And everyone is obsessed with Mustangs [for whatever inconceivable reason... they’re so fucking ugly... Like all Fords!])
We only have Walmart or Dollar Store
We say “ope” when we mess up
Do y’all say “skillet” in reference to pans? ‘Cause we say “skillet”... “You fry squash in the copper skillet”
Speaking of regional things... Do y’all have Steak ‘n’ Shakes... I’m pretty sure they’re regional... Kind of like Krystal’s and Bojangles (I’m fairly confident that those are only in the east... and they get scarce the farther you go from the south east.... Also, what’s the deal with Cracker Barrel?)
