In August 2015, Fidelity India launched its first RESUME program, offering women who had taken a break from their career an opportunity to re-enter the workforce. This was a new beginning—both for Fidelity India as well as all of us who were aspiring for second careers. Most of us had been away from work and had made choices to support families, raise children or complete our academic journey. We had so many questions: How would we make the transition, which organization would give us an opportunity to rejoin the workplace, what kind of jobs would we get, would we be able to integrate work and our personal lives, and so on.

I vividly remember the RESUME launch event. It was a full house! A panel of senior leaders took time out to introduce the program to us and answer all our questions. The launch was followed by an interview and selection process.

My first few days at Fidelity flew by so fast! Meeting my team—the Ethics Office—stood out for me. My colleagues were so warm, friendly and welcoming. I knew I had made the right choice, and slowly began to realize why Fidelity has several tenured and happy associates. There is surely something about this place!

When I look back at the first six months, I remember how enthusiastic yet nervous I was. The Ethics and Compliance role was new to me, and I had so much to learn. I was amazed to see how the Ethics Office helps associates understand the company’s policies and compliance requirements. I now understand the role that my team plays in helping associates adhere to policies and, in turn, protect the Fidelity brand. Doing the right thing and helping others do the same is a great feeling.

After spending over two years here, I still feel like there is something new to learn every day. The time that I have spent here has enriched me in so many ways, both personally and professionally. When you have colleagues who are more like friends, work becomes fun, and Mondays are not so blue! I am grateful for the support that I have always received, and look forward to the road ahead.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step… and for me, Fidelity has been a step in the right direction.
