For being such a flirtatious person he swore the hopeless romantic in him would always rear it's ugly head whenever someone else passed along a little affection to him. He didn't know why he was like that. He squeezed people's arm when he passed them, watched them from across halls undressing them with his eyes, making sure that person saw him doing it. He played with his curls, stood close to people when he spoke to them. He was by all means a promiscuous person, and yet he could never stop is face from flushing or his breath from catching when people did those things back to him. Sometimes, it was all lust, other times he got lost in fantasizing about what it would be like to be somebody's someone.
In retrospect, he was a mess.
Being kissed by friends or even people he hardly knew didn't really bother him, unless he hated that person of course. He liked to take it as a sign that maybe he wasn't doing as bad as he might criticize himself for being.
He liked to think him and Reilin got along pretty well. They were both mages, but he knew Reilin did not want to talk about that. He respected it, he'd never been in a circle but he could only imagine how traumatizing they must have been. They also both had a talent for healing, though that didn't always have to be magic.
The kiss caught him completely off guard, his hands hung awkwardly in place while his mind raced for things he ought to be doing with them. They were covered in dirt, as was the hem of his dress. In fact, his arms were dusted with soil too, though his freckled complexion probably made them look far dirtier than they were.
There was also another thing, Reilin was very pretty. Sure he kissed a lot of pretty people but not without a little reinforcement to sway them to kiss him first. Without that he stiffened up in surprise. Only then he started to worry that Reilin might think he'd upset him which was not the case at all. He tried to think of ways to communicate that without just saying "I'm not mad at you," because that hardly sounded appropriate to say to someone when they kissed you. Solution? Kiss Reilin.
Thankfully that didn't take a great deal of work on his part. Reilin was one of the very very few people he knew who was shorter than he was. He didn't have to try to reach his face and drag it back down, none of that. All he had to do was put his two hands stained with garden soil on either side of Reilin's face and return the favor. That was what he did.
He didn't say anything, because he couldn't think of a single thing that wouldn't make himself want to punch himself in the face later.
