"You're going to be fine, you know," Charlie mumbled, making the other girl jump.

"Oh!" she squeaked, her eyes darting about in confusion. "I—I'm sorry, what did you say?"

Charlie smiled softly and straightened in her seat. "I said you're going to be fine. Every time someone talks to you, just smile and nod and it'll work itself out." The girl's eyebrows pulled together in a confused frown, making Charlie's smile widen. "You're new here, right? First day?"

She let out a light laugh and nodded. "Yeah. How could you tell?"

Charlie let a serious expression cover her face. "I'm psychic," she whispered dramatically.

"Really?" the girl asked through another laugh.

"Absolutely," Charlie replied with a grave nod. "Also you're in the front office holding a piece of paper that says 'TRANSFER' in big bold letters across the top."

She looked down at the paper in her hands and exhaled. "Yeah, I guess I'm a bit out of it today," she said, tugging nervously at the ends of her hair. She held out her hand and flashed a smile that managed to be simultaneously brilliant and uncertain. "Allison Argent."

Charlie accepted it and gave it a firm shake. "Charlie Oswin."

Okay, so the dialogue here is a bit from the first draft of my story, and it’s a bit of a flash forward so....spoilers-ish?

"Is there a point to this rambling monologue?" Charlie drawled with more confidence than she felt. "If I had a dollar for every time you threatened my life I'd actually be able to buy one of these obscenely expensive dresses."

Peter snorted and took a step towards her. "You know, that's what I like about you, Charlie," he mused. "I know you're terrified, you know that I know you're terrified, and you still refuse to show it. Some people might say that's foolish or stubborn or reckless or just..begging for me to kill you—I think it's admirable. And the fact that you're able to keep such a good sense of humor through the whole thing—" He began clapping his hands together, slowly and with deliberation. "I have to say, you've really made the whole process so much more fun."

There was no denying the relief that swept through Charlie when he declared her safe, but she concealed it with as much determination as she had hidden her terror at his sudden appearance. He might hear her heartbeat, but she would not relinquish her self-control. "Yeah," Charlie scoffed. "That's what all those people died from. An excess of fun."

"No," Peter corrected. "Those people died because I decided to rip out their throats. And unlike you, none of them were innocent."

"I'm not totally innocent.  I stole a police horse once. I named it Reginald."

He released a laugh, genuine and threatening all at once. "You know, Charlie, you never cease to surprise me."

"If you're going to kill me, just get it over with," she replied in a tired voice. "Stop playing with your food before you eat it. Have some table manners."

"Oh, are you worried about what I said to Scott?" he asked, waving a dismissive hand. "You don't need to worry about that—it was just dramatic effect, purely for Scott's benefit only. The boy has a bit of a savior complex, I think. It’s so easy to mess with him, it almost isn’t fun. I can just picture him hyperventilating and making that constipated face of his." Peter chuckled to himself, shaking his head.  The look he shot her had an odd degree of earnestness. "I'm not going to kill you, Charlie. No, no, no, no—it would get so much more boring if I killed you. And if you died, the view would not be improved in the least. I have you figured into my long term plans."

             Charlie and Scott

"I know I'm kind of breaking into an exclusive club," Charlie finally said, glancing at Scott in the rearview mirror. "And I know you don't know me very well. But I can't exactly un-know all of this stuff, so I'm kind of in it now. It's probably for the best if we clear the air. So anything you want to ask me, just ask."

Scott's gaze pricked her skin like the points of a dozen needles. When he managed to speak, his words were cautious. "Are you going to tell Allison?"

"No." Charlie's reply was definitive and came with a pronounced shake of the head. "No, I won't tell her. But you should know that she's going to find out eventually. Her aunt Kate is already nudging her in the right direction with all the stories about her family. I—I just thought you should know that."

A loud groan escaped Scott and he ran his hands down his face. "I know…. Oh my God, my girlfriend's family is trying to kill me."

Charlie made a face and elbowed him in the side. "Hey, it could be worse."

"How?! How could it be worse?!"

"They could be nudists or something," Charlie shrugged. "If you thought that train wreck of a dinner party we went to was bad, just imagine...Or they could be taxidermists and every time you were at Allison's you would have eerily lifelike dead animals staring at you while the two of you make out in the garage."

The ensuing laughter towed the line between hysterical and hysteric. "I didn't think I could get any more creeped out, but it turns out I can. Thanks for that, Charlie. Really, thanks."

"Meh, I do what I can."

              Lydia and Charlie

"Lydia, what the hell?" Charlie gasped, clutching her hand to her heart. Forgoing society's conventional greetings, Lydia ripped the baseball cap from Charlie's head and snatched the sunglasses from her face, tossing them on a nearby shelf without question. "Um, you just stole my line," she sniped.  "You just run out of Macy's without so much as a 'see ya later'?  For a Target? Tell me—are you allergic to fun? Does fun make you feel itchy?"

"You and Allison were busy! And why didn't you just call me? That's what phones are for."

Lydia smiled that serene, unknowable smile of hers. "I prefer to make a dramatic entrance."

"Well you managed that just fine," Charlie growled. "Lots of flair. How the hell did you know where to find me?"

"Easy.  I just identified the closest location that sold Snickers in bulk." She reached forward for the pocket of Charlie's jacket, her expression seven types of smug as she drew her hand back with a candy bar clutched in her manicured talons. "Well, would you look at that. It's a Snickers."

Charlie snatched the the candy bar back possessively. "Alright, fine. You got me. I have a weakness for peanuts and caramel. Sue me."

"Also I downloaded 'Find My Friends' to your phone."

"You what?!"

"So….do you wanna talk about it?"

Stiles wrinkled his nose and shook his head. "Not really."

"Okay, then."

That should have been that. Avoiding heavy conversations was a staple of the Charlie Oswin behavioral manual. But Stiles was still sad and her skin still itched. "Um, if you decide that you do wanna talk about it, I'm, you know, here and stuff. Like if you want to do some unnecessary yelling, you can do it in my direction and I promise not to get mad."

Stiles's lips twitched again, but this time they went upwards. The happy direction. "That's a generous offer. You sure you're up for it?"

"Absolutely," she declared. "I might punch you in the face, but I won't be mad."

"Um, you really need to work on your sales pitch," Stiles laughed, gesturing in the general direction of her face. "And FYI, face-punching negates pretty much all of the generosity in the offer."

"Hey, I'm not Mother Theresa," Charlie shot back, folding her arms across her chest. "And that's just how it works. Punches follow yelling. It's instinctive. There's no ill will or whatever. Just playground rules."

Stiles wheezed. "Playground rules?"

"Yeah, playground rules. If someone gets in your face, you gotta punch them. Otherwise all the other kids think you're weak and turn on you. Punching maintains the status quo."

Stiles gaped at her, shaking his head in disbelief. "Playground rul—those are prison rules! Did you grow up in the Thunderdome?" Charlie smiled enigmatically, and Stiles gave of a derisive scoff. "Sometimes you terrify me."

"Good call, young padawan," Charlie smirked. "Your instincts do not steer you wrong. You would do well in the Thunderdome."

STRANGER THINGS S2 - Something Wicked

Relationship Board - Ashley Keegan & Steve Harrington

Steve:  Hey…uh, so I just wanted to say sorry.  For…you know…high school.  For not hanging out with you anymore.  I’m not sure how it happened—we were friends and then we just…weren’t.  Sorry about that.  I was a dickhead.

Ash: You’re kidding, right?  Not about being a dickhead—that is indisputable—but you didn’t stop hanging out with me, I stopped hanging out with you.  Don’t rewrite history, dude.

Steve: Wha—what?  I’m pretty sure I did the bailing.  And why would you want to stop hanging out with me?  I mean....

Ash:  I don’t know.  You became friends with Tommy and Carol who are assholes.  When you were around them, you were an asshole.  So the more time you spent with them, the less time I spent with you because I don’t care for assholes, and…yeah.  You started sucking super hard.  That’s the CliffsNotes.

Steve: I stopped hanging out with them like a year ago, though!

Ash: I’m sorry, am I supposed to be monitoring your social diary so I can pencil myself in for a session with the fancy-haired Steve Harrington?  Get your head out of your ass, man, I’ve got shit to do.

Steve *smirking slightly*: Mmkay. Yeah, I guess you do.

Ash: Thank you.

Steve: So you think my hair is fancy, huh?

Ash: Shut up.

      Charlie: Are we sure this is a good idea?

      Scott: Charlie, this was your idea.

      Charlie: I know it was my idea.  I'm asking if it's a good one. I've been known to have some pretty shitty ideas.

      Scott: You don’t have to say that twice.

      Charlie: Hey!  Uncalled for, man.  Uncalled for.

      Scott: Wha--You said it first!  I was just agreeing with you.

      Charlie: You’re not supposed to agree with me.  You’re supposed to tell me that I’m a genius and I have genius ideas and that I’m always right about everything ever.

      Scott: I’m already telling enough lies as it is.

      Charlie: Hey!!!

      Scott:  What?!

Relationship Boards - Second Generation Black Water

          Luke & Ally Oswinski Relationship Board (1/?)

             Luke: Okay, so I’m going to throw an idea out at you.

             Ally: It’s a bad idea.

             Luke: But you haven’t even heard it yet!

             Ally: I already know it’s a bad idea.

             Luke: It could be a great idea.  I have great ideas sometimes.  What if I find the cure for cancer?  What if I found a new antibiotic to replace penicillin?  What if I pioneer a new method of CPR and end up saving thousands of lives?

             Ally: And I’m left here wondering when you decided to pursue a degree in medicine.  Last I checked your main priority in seeking out universities was whether or not they had a Quidditch team.

             Luke: Don’t mock me for having the right priorities.

             Ally *sighs*: Okay.  I will entertain this mysterious idea of yours if--

             Luke: SCORE!

             Ally: --IF it doesn’t include the following words and/or terms: fire, explosion, nuclear apocalypse, zombie apocalypse, alien invasion apocalypse...just all of the apocalypses in general...apocalypses....apocalypsi?

              Luke: I think it’s apocalypses.

              Ally:  Right.  Well none of those.  Also no cantaloupes, watermelons, none of the gourds, festive or otherwise....no hand-gliders, no trampolines.

              Luke *pauses*: Okay, never mind.

              Ally: Which one was it?

              Luke: Cantaloupe.

              Ally: Jesus, Luke, not again.

              Luke *makes pouty face*

              Ally *sighs*:  Okay, show me the specs.  And remember how you screwed up the trajectory last time.  Physics are a thing.  Let’s try not to break any windows this time.
