"I'll cook dinner!," I say, like I know what that means or how to even start. 

I can read, I can buy things, I can use kitcheny things, so an all-day stress fest is just, I know, not the proper reaction for a grown woman to have when she accidentally volunteers to cook. 

Suddenly I've forgotten what comprised every meal I've ever had.
