The List - Omissions, the obvious and the 'oh, I forgot we had him!'
The list I'd been waiting for with most curiousity was finally released on Friday but I was at my boyfriend's all weekend So I've not had time to discuss it. Firstly, I was expecting a decision on Aleksander Tunchev but I totally understand why one has not been made. Instead of giving him a contract now he will instead come back for pre-season training with us, including the trip to Sweden and then we shall decide on whether or not to give him a contract. It makes sense really, see if he can keep the injury away and if he can get his form back.
Anyway, the 10 released are...
Robert Ambrusics, Ashley Chambers, Nathan Hicks, Jorrin John, Craig King, Ben Milnes, Luke O'Neill, Aman Verma, Adi Yussuf and Ricardo.
Some are listing the latter as a surprise but Ricardo was only ever contracted until the end of the season which always seemed like a gap filler until the summer when Sven had more time/freedom to shop around. We're still heavily linked with Kieren Westwood which I would welcome personally.
The omissions? I can think of a few players who I could swear were also out of contract, those being Elliott Chamberlain, Cian Bolger, Tom Parkes. I'm pleased if it means we're offering them new contracts as I have a soft spot for two but there's no mention on them either way...
The obvious? Most of them really but notably Ambrusics. When we were short of keepers he failed to make the bench, superseeded by Adam Smith which made it clear he does not feature in Sven's plans. No real surprises at all. Doesn't mean it's not sad to see some of them go. I'm fond of the academy lads and disappointed for a couple of them so I hope they can go on and make a name for themselves.
The 'oh, i forgot we had him!' is more when I was looking at what's left of our squad and realised I'd actually forgotten about Michael Lamey, Moreno, Leon Crncic and Daniel Uccechi! I don't expect the first two here next season and the latter...who knows. I'd also expect to see Neilson, Logan and N'Guessan to move on. Whatever happens it looks set to be a busy summer when the transfer window movement begins.
