What did Astra do in the ~12 years between Fort Rozz crashing to Earth and Kata becoming Supergirl? Did she start a couture jumpsuit fashion line? Star in a Tony award winning musical? Act as the lead in several hastily cancelled tv shows? Spill your headcanons.

I 100% brought this onto myself, didn’t I? This is just about the hardest Astra-related question you can ask, because what the fuck, Astra, why have you been hiding for twelve YEARS WHO NEEDS THIS MUCH TIME DOING… WHATEVER! And it’s also a rather disappointing one, because imagining reality tends to get relatively dull in comparison to your examples bahhaha

So as always, starting from what we know. We know the prisoners rose against the guards when they landed and killed all but one, minus anyone that escaped and remained hidden, because who knows, right? We know that Astra immediately gathered the prisoners together, ironically under El Mayarah, because that was the best chance for all of their survival. And we know that once Astra did find out about Earth’s status, she prepared Myriad, whenever that was, and thus finally had a plan.

Initially Astra didn’t know how Earth was doing, so before preparing Myriad I imagine it was just keeping the escapees safe, just plain old survival, in exchange for their loyalty, because a general needs an army. She trains them and their newfound abilities, has them doing a bunch of recon so they can eventually really call this place home, no matter how much that idea makes her heart ache because Krypton is her home and it is gone. She’s a general, she has to be strong for them, and this controlling normalcy is the closest thing to comfort she’s going to get. The others have the luxury of not having to think, because she takes that responsibility for them.

And, you know, then the recon told them Earth was headed for ecological destruction, and her army went from survival mode to power hungry when she reinstated Myriad. Again, this is familiar territory, really she’s just doing what she’s always done and trying to get her old life back. 

I gotta say, I like the couture jumpsuit fashion line better, it hurts less :)

Astra's jumpsuit. Is it really the only thing she's worn in her ~12 years on earth? Does she have anything else in her closet (other than herself)? Would she ever go for Earth fashion and if so, what do you think she'd be drawn to?

This is like the hardest question you could ask, because there is no indication of clothing preferences or anything in the canon, like… Only the Kryptonian robe, which was also black, that’s the only other thing she’s worn in all her screen time. (Which, by the way, is more complicated than we gave it credit for; it’s at least 2 pieces, maybe 3 if the hood is separate as well, which I think it is.) For all we know she’d love to parade around in hot pink leotards!

I mean, I really don’t think so, but can you imagine?

Anyway, I digress. Yes, I do think her jumpsuit is the only thing she’s worn in her years on Earth. I still headcanon that thing to be self-cleaning or something of the sort, and Astra is nothing if not practical, especially if she’s focused on something as big as Myriad (and, more importantly, keeping her men in line). Who has time for something trivial as laundry when you’re trying to save a planet? 

She would have something formal in her closet if she’d ever intended to engage with the humans, which she didn’t. What’s there to gain from interacting with humans after all? They’re just going to try to stop her. So no, I think it’s really just the jumpsuit when it comes to the canon timeline.

But after Myriad has failed and she has to redeem herself and resort to actually living a (relatively) mundane life? Yeah, she’ll start to bother with Earthly fashion while assimilating. Initially nothing out of her comfort zone, skin-tight and black, silver accents if there are any. And then she’ll start wearing dark jeans. And well, it’s a whole transition which includes stealing her girlfriend’s casual clothing because it’s comfortable, but eventually she’ll develop an actual taste that isn’t solely black. It’s still primarily black/grey though, but there’s some splashes of color.

Just never blue or gold; that was Alura’s thing and she will not touch it, may it be the initial hatred or the eventual respect.

Ok I'm deplorably late again, but in honour of the occasion, what are some of your thoughts/headcanons re: Astra's sexuality?

Guess I’m not answering this on PC as anticipate, the app will have to do, don’t wanna make it even later ;P (I kid, it’s awesome that this is a regular thing, late I’m still stoked) Went with a can of worms this time, hm? Obligatory disclaimer: These are headcanons, feel free to disagree 😂

Personally I headcanon ALL Kryptonians pansexual, and I like to imagine that they are Shook when they get here to Earth and discover exclusive sexualities are a thing. Like, it’s been so ingrained in their culture that your partner is either assigned or just a person you liked who liked you back that it never occurred to them that sexuality is a thing at all. It used to be a thing when they were in their Primitive Stages, but it no longer made a difference with their technology. How’s that for a headcanon?

So yeah, Astra is no exception to that. To me she’s pan af, doesn’t really think about her sexuality at all, she just looks at someone and feels what she feels. Considering she married Non (and did appear to be somewhat intimate with him, the forehead touching and stuff) and was highly attracted to Alex, I’d say it works.

But y’know, I love talking any sexuality headcanon on her, there’s a lot of options considering we really don’t know anything about Krypton and she hasn’t said anything about it. Seriously, she never said anything about her opinion/feelings regarding Non, she’s only ever told Kara she loved her, and Alex that she liked her. That’s it.

What are your favourite theories or headcanons of what happened to Astra after they floated her into space after her death?

Ho ho ho (your icon is rubbing off on me), what a question, one that has a million and one answers essentially, and many more to come that we haven’t explored yet.

So my favorite realistic headcanon for it, as to what actually happened in the canon, is definitely the solar nap thing where the pod just kinda circles the sun, restores Astra, and gets back to Earth. Simple, but effective, and always works.

My favorite realistic one in fic I believe was from Missy? I’m not entirely sure, so don’t quote me on that, but it’s basically where there were other aliens that found her drifting in space, decided to restore her, and dropped her back off on Earth. Idk, there was just something delightful about Astra being taken care of, I wish I could remember properly so I could look it up.

Favorite silly one in fic? Falling Up takes the cake, I love that frankenstein-esque way of restoring her to death and beyond and I am very due for a reread of that one. Alex playing mad scientist certainly is part of the appeal :P

Favorite one I’ve written is probably /Lillian/ going mad scientist and restoring her. I think that was mostly appealing bc it was fun to write Astra like, very wary in clearly hostile territory. Admittedly though, I haven’t written a whole lot of different ways of bringing her back to life.

Most horrifying one I’ve read was probably one where she was kept in a tank, all hooked up with various wires, that might have been from motorcyclegrrl? It was great, but so, so dark, it had me cringing at the idea of it the entire time and even Astra begged for the release of death. I can appreciate some darkness though, hence why I’m mentioning it among the favorites.

Those were memorable enough for me to remember right now, I don’t doubt that there’s a favorite I’m forgetting, lol. There’s just so many, this fandom is awesome at thinking of new ideas ^_^

What do you think Astra's weapon(s) of choice would be, disregarding the overpowered-kryptonian-don't-need-no-weapons situation? Long-range/short-range/ high-impact/low-impact offensive/defensive etc?

The actual hardest question ever when it comes to her tbh, I’m going to precede this by saying I have no clue, at all, I have no headcanons and so many people have different headcanons that I just… Don’t know. So here’s to thinking aloud, I guess!

So let’s start with what we know about Astra: she’s obsessed with honor. She’s been using punches and kicks more than her heat vision and freeze breath, though she did use them. When purposely throwing the fight she was running, destroying inanimate things that didn’t really matter, and kept as many openings for Kara to hit as possible. 

Taking all of that into account, I get the sense that she’d be on the front lines, full offense and dexterity, low-impact.

Now that said, she’s not stupid. I think her weapon of choice depends on her opponent, so in a way her weapon of choice is her intellect. While I’m sure she’d prefer close combat with her bare fists, if her enemy is going to have a weapon, she’ll bring one of her own. Sword fights are exhilarating, but rare, which is probably part of why it’s enjoyable: usually she’ll have to resort to some sort of blaster.

I think Krypton would have one of those cliche energy blasters that have a lethal and a stunning mode. It’s not so much that they’re her preferred weapons, but they’re what she’s used to, and the lack of casualties is appreciated. She doesn’t dislike them, she’s good with them, but it’s kind of a ‘this is part of the job’ kind of thing. If she goes long range though, it will be one of those, definitely not one of Earth’s primitive guns. God forbid a bow and arrow.

In short: Our fantasies of Astra wielding a sword (one, definitely not two) may very well be something she agrees with when it comes to enjoyment, but it’s just not practical, lest you put her in a time machine and send her back to the Medieval times on Earth. Which she will not appreciate. Don’t do it.

How do you think Astra likes her a) coffee b) tea, and c) icecream?

Decided to skip the underwear question in favor of food? -snickers- Good call. Goodness, okay, food is hard for me, and just watch, I’m going to contradict my fic on this, I don’t remember if I gave Alex black coffee or Astra, but one of the two liked it and the other was disgusted lmao, but that aside…

I think Astra would drink black coffee when she isn’t at home. I think there’s a difference between liking it and drinking it, but she would. I think she’s learned to consume just about anything regardless of taste, and she doesn’t want to inconvenience people too much, you feel? Plus it’s almost a reputation thing, the whole obsession with not appearing weak carries over even into beverages. 

But at home when she goes for her actual likes? Well, I don’t know anything about coffee, really, but I imagine it’ll be closer to one of those embarrassingly long Starbucks coffee orders, the bitterness diluted with something. Nothing too sweet though, it’s still coffee, if she wants something sweeter she’ll get something else.

For tea I feel like she’d go herbal, might even try to grow her own herbs specifically for tea. No creamer or sweetener, just the pure taste of the herbs, hell, maybe even flower tea, those jasmine things and stuff? Alex thinks it’s disgusting, but she’ll try whenever Astra has concocted something new anyway.

Ice cream is a tough one, mostly because due to obvious reasons I’m tempted to just immediately yell (and sing) vanilla ice cream. I mean I think she’d like it, but I don’t think it would necessarily be her favorite. I feel like Kara would have made her try plenty flavors, and though she’ll never admit it out loud, I think she has a soft spot for any flavor that includes cookies. Kara and Alex both know it though, behind all that passive aggressive reluctance, not even Astra can hide that mirth in her eyes as she’s eating it.

What kind of sleepwear do u think Astra wears?

Okay so, I did mention like, I think on Krypton they had longass sleepwear and stuff, right? So that’s a thing she’s used to and grew up with and all that jazz, as there’s something to be said for force of habit, whether you want to forget the place or not

So then Fort Rozz, I sincerely hope they got to change out of their prison uniforms into something more comfortable, but I’m not counting on it. Hell, that suit is probably designed to be self-cleaning so they never have to deal with having prisoners change and inconsequential things like laundry

Heh, on that note she might initially just sleep in her day clothes, forgetting she’s supposed to wear sleepwear now, even after she makes the switch from that uniform to human clothing. Maybe Alex prods her about that, lol

But then eventually we get to the shirt and shorts/boxers image in my head. Humans don’t really have standards for sleepwear, just wear whatever the fuck they like best, and while Astra isn’t ashamed of her body by any means, sleeping naked feels… somewhat uncomfortable. She doesn’t really feel the need to go full-on long PJs like they did on Krypton, maybe because they did it on Krypton, but for comfort’s sake she still wants some fabric between her skin and the blankets

Rao, that’s a lot of headcanons about sleepwear out of all things. Oh well :P

What kind of TV shows/entertainment do you think Astra prefers to consume? Provide specifics. Any surprises among the bunch?

Oh Rao, that’s a hard one

First thought: I would say she’d watch a lot of history channel, national geographic, animal planet, things that are more educative than entertaining, right? But on second thought I’d think she’d rather read about those things that watch them in a slow-paced documentary. She could learn those same things in a tenth of the time, why would she waste her time on them?

No, TV is for entertainment, not for learning. Animal planet might still pop up because of adorable animals, and because it’s harder to spot in real life, but other than that? She mostly watches whatever Alex and Kara are watching. And complains about inaccuracies and impracticalities, much to their amusement. Truthfully? She enjoys watching these silly shows as much as they do, but hell if she’ll let them know that. When they call her out on it, because she never does anything she deems a waste of time, she gets to hide under the guise of it being a bonding experience, so it’s perfect

Hell would truly freeze over if she’d ever admit that she watches reality TV when she is alone. At first it was because she didn’t understand what the big deal about the Kardashians was, but that quickly transitioned into a kind of guilty pleasure. It’s like people watching, except you get to laugh out loud at the actual ridiculousness without offending anyone

I think she usually kinda holds back her reactions, like around people, including Kara. She’d rather see Kara laugh than actually laugh at whatever is playing, and initially that’s also true for Alex, until they’re comfortable enough with each other that they’re both bursting out into full blown laughter. (If it’s crying, Alex is the one to hand her a tissue; it’s the one thing Astra still stubbornly tries to hold back, but Alex knows better, because she’s tearing up as well)
