How my character is dealing with the loss of yours

A scream echoed in her room, and its only seconds before she realized it is her own. Shes darted upright, a cold sweat beading on her forehead. 

Hes not there. Hes never there. Why would he be? She pushed him away so hard for so long….and now it was to late. Katniss couldn’t pull him to her if he wanted. Her mind races, fragments of painful memories claw at her heart. 

A battle.

                                                                           A sword.

            Her bow.

                                               A push….

            His face….his scream…

 and then his blood, splattered across her face like a permanent reminder that if it weren’t for her, he’d still be alive. Katniss can almost feel the blood on her cheek now, still warm, a fresh reminder. Even though she tried her best to wipe the feeling from her face she couldn’t escape it. 

Alex was GONE and he had died saving HER. It was all her fault.

"I’m sorry Alex…I’m so sorry. I..I never told you that…I love you.."

The archer hugged her knees to her chest, her face buried into them as her tears flowed freely. “I love you…and now you’ll never know.”

What Katniss will never know….is that he did.
