Some kitty goddess wisdom and life with a creative mum
Today is #RememberMeThursday, when we take a moment to remember all the pets who never got to see a loving home, and shine a light on all the orphaned pets still looking for one. I found Boo almost a year ago now. He came from Texas, where an overabundance of strays makes it hard for them to find a home down there. Boo is now a best friend, bringing life into my home and keeping Momo on his toes. Tell me about your rescue! Sharing your story might encourage someone to do the same. #RememberMeThursday was piloted by @hwac, an amazing centre which I’ve had the pleasure to visit a few times. Their efforts, along with the efforts of the countless rescues working tirelessly around the world, ensures that these dogs find a place to call home. https://www.instagram.com/p/CFhnJsEBB9y/?igshid=1l6aih9liibb8
On #remembermethursday, here is a picture of Seamus Wheaton getting the neck scratches he deserves, while Watson Wheaton quietly judges us. Because cats. @annewheaton and I love all of our rescue pets, and we are proud and honored to be a light for rescue pets today, and every day. https://www.instagram.com/p/B25L93sB5TN/?igshid=6c921goh46cc
Remember Me Thursday
🕯️ Today is Remember Me Thursday—a day to honor shelter pets still waiting for their forever homes, and to remember those who never got the chance to be loved by a family.
Both of my boys were adopted from different shelters in Illinois.
🐾 Sammie (Shih Tzu) was listed as a stray—most likely dumped—and adopted from Knox County Animal Shelter in Galesburg on November 19, 2011. He spent nearly 12 beautiful years being loved by me and my husband before cancer took him to the Rainbow Bridge on August 16, 2023.
🐾 Anakin (Coonhound mix) had a rough start. He was one of 13 puppies dumped at McDonough County Shelter in Macomb when they were just 6 weeks old. 12 had parvo. Four didn’t survive. We adopted him on September 20, 2023.
His shelter name was Forky, which we thought was a terrible name for a dog. We renamed him Anakin—yes, after Anakin Skywalker—because our boy is strong, resilient, and absolutely not trash. Someone at the dog park reminded us that Forky kept throwing himself in the trash in Toy Story 4 because he thought he was trash. I’m so glad we gave our boy a name worthy of his fight.
Every rescue has a story. Every shelter pet deserves a chance.

Love making videos to help others. I am not sure my last version loaded so am trying again!
Share a photo of your rescue pets today with #RememberMeThursday so we can spread the word about how amazing rescue pets are! #SeeTheLight (at Solana Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFhfNlxlcRj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Posted @withrepost • @crashsbigsids Pet adoption can be a life-changing decision for both the pet and the family involved. Each year, over one million pets are euthanized annually, and although that number has consistently decreased in the last decade, there is still a lot more work to be done in spreading awareness. In honor of Remember Me Thursday, help us shine a light on the importance of pet adoption by sharing your pet's adoption story on social media or by making a donation to your local animal shelter in honor of your adopted pet. Let's be the voice for orphan pets in need of forever homes! #remembermethursday #adoptdontshop #catshelter https://www.instagram.com/p/Cizv7-2rCQF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
