warnings: body insecurity!
You wished you hadn't agreed to this date.
It wasn't because you didn't like Remus, because that definitely wasn't the case. It was something more to do with your overwhelming anxiety that, for some reason, he wouldn't like you.
You stared your reflection down in the mirror, self-consciously flattening down your outfit and your hair. There was something off today. Your clothes weren't fitting as they normally did. They felt tighter, more uncomfortable at the waist.
You were just about to change your outfit before the doorbell rang.
Your heart was already pounding in your chest, and you hadn't even seen him yet. This was definitely a terrible idea.
Before you could change your mind, you unlocked the door.
"Hi," Remus said, a wide grin on his face when he saw you.
"Hi," you whispered, eyes darting to his face and then down to the floor when you couldn't bear to hold eye contact. You fidgeted with your extremely uncomfortable skirt instead.
He leaned down slightly until you looked up at him. "You look gorgeous, honey."
You blushed, a perfect pink coating your cheeks as you invited him in, saying you just needed to grab your bag and you could go.
He settled himself down on the couch, reaching for the remote on the coffee table and switching your tv on.
"What're you doing?" you asked, voice almost inaudible.
He glanced at you, a soft smile on his face. "I thought we could stay in tonight," he replied, leaning his head back onto your couch cushions.
"But-" you said, hesitating. "I thought we were going to a party?" Maybe he just didn't want to take you anymore, you thought. Pushing the voices in your head away, you focused on Remus's voice.
"I'm not saying you don't look absolutely stunning," you blushed again, "but I don't want to make you uncomfortable. And I just thought, maybe, you'd feel better if we just spent the night in?"
You relaxed, tension released from your shoulders as you smiled at him. "Thank you," you replied shyly. "I'll just go change."
You grabbed your sweatshirt and leggings, peeling off your earlier clothes and putting them on instead. You made your way back to the living room, where Remus patted the spot on the couch next to him.
"So," he said, smile evident in his voice, "what're we going to watch?" He pulled you into his chest, arm around your shoulders. And as weird as it was, it felt normal. So you leaned into it, head drooping against him.
"I don't mind," you said, legs curled up on the sofa next to you. You paused. "Thank you for noticing," you murmured. None of the boys that came before him had thought to do so.
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head. "I mean, what kind of boyfriend would I be to not?"
The thought of him being your boyfriend excited you way more than it should have.
