I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure what to do with remora’s ancestor for the longest time. I had a very good idea for barbel, Hermes, Latema, and even Andreo (not the mention the Coldwell family tree). But Remora never particularly stuck out to me as needing an ancestor. The ancestors in Fanstuck are a literary device for character introspection, usually a character will admire, hate, or even mimic the life of their ancestor. But Remora never really needed that.
Remora was always meant to be cartoonish in a sense. A caricature of the fandoms idea of an heir. She’s murderous, Hemophobic, makes gratuitous fish puns, and does everything an heir should. In a very meta sense, her ancestor is every Murder happy fuchsia oc.
as the story progresses and shifts more towards the ancestors, that introspection is now needed. What did Remora come from? Well she came from someone who’s just as bad as she is if not somehow worse. She’s mimicking the actions of her ancestor almost to a T. But as Barbel said, the ancestor met an unfortunate and vengeful end.
Regius means Royal. And no matter how hard she stuck to tradition, no matter how hard she held on to what she knew. It did not save her. It didn’t save anyone. Percif hands down that tradition to Remora. That is what Percif is
