Being Narcissa Black was exceptionally lonely. Despite the crowds of people who would ebb and flow in and out of her life, rarely interested in more than her wealth and influence, when it boiled down to it, she could count on one hand the people she could actually count on. She never meant for Remus Lupin of all people on the face of the earth to become one of those people, but her standards weren’t very high when it came to those she should count on. And before him, nobody had ever made it seem like she was human for having emotions. And now, after watching her father be walked away in handcuffs and feeling the earth quake beneath her, that was all she really wanted. And so, with a frantic owl to the pest control department, she explained that there was another Boggart in her home.
There wasn’t.
But when she heard Remus arrive, she pretended to be at her table, writing another letter. “Oh! Remus,” she said, after her House Elf had let him in. “You got here too quickly, I was just writing you. I was able to get rid of it myself,” she said, a shrug on her shoulders. “But you might as well stay for tea if you have the time!”
