In the ninth grade, a guest speaker came to my English class. With tears in her eyes, an even voice and a composed manner, she shared a traumatic experience with us. I was envious of her. I coveted her openness, her willingness to be vulnerable and how comfortable she was with being with and expressing her emotions. I was 15-years-old, in the closet since I was 5-years-old, and I was terrified of how my life could change if I allowed myself to be vulnerable.
