Okay, so this is not the usual stuff you see on my blog and I bet most of my watchers don’t know this show, but honestly? Killjoys is just finishing its third season (no news of renewal yet but it’s a strong possibility) it absolutely BAFFLES ME that it is not more popular among Tumblr crowd.

Seriously. This show is so much better than most people give it credit for, especially from season 2 and up. Go and watch it now if you like any of the reasons below:

Totally bad-ass WOC lead and her two male sidekicks who are absolutely aware that they are sidekicks and have no problem with it whatsoever.

Bounty hunters in space. If you miss Firefly you should really watch Killjoys.

Female empowerment. Women are absolutely amazing characters. Ladies run the show behind the scenes as well.

No sexism or racism in the universe. Diversity in race, ethnicity, sexuality.

Healthy approach to sex. Casual hook-ups are fine, so are relationships. Or multiple relationships. Polygamy is okay. Pegging is cool. Total respect for sex workers.

Gay warlords. Gays in space. So much gay and it’s totally normal - no one even bats an eyelash at all the gay.

Unusual approach to religion. Masochistic (hot!) monks.

Science and nerds save the day as often as brute force and soldiers.

The show knows what it is and can make fun of itself pretty often. They don’t try to pretend to be something they are not.

No fake drama for the sake of drama! No terrible secrets that characters hide from each other for three seasons. Conflicts get solved fast.

The team is a family. The guys are actually related. The female lead briefly hooks up with one - it doesn’t last, but it doesn’t ruin their relationship. For the other brother she is a ‘boss/wife/platonic life partner’ (as said in the show). They all would go to hell and back for each other.

season 2 head cannons

Scene 1:  Dutch and Johnny are at black warrant. One of the other Killjoys asks where D’avin is at. Johnny and Dutch say they’d rather not talk about it.  Then someone notices that Fancy is gone.  Cue the joking about how Fancy and Dav were recruited into Level Six only Dutch and John are not laughing. 

Scene 2: Dutch and Johnny arrive on the base at Arkyn to find Khlyen waiting for them.  “I knew you would piece it together little bird. Welcome to level Six.” Dutch is stunned.  “Before you ask he’s not here.” “This was a trap” asks Dutch. “Yes”

Scene 3: After months of searching and no luck finding D’avin, Bellus convinces them to take a warrant.  They are at a bar/warehouse ready to close in on their target when somebody makes a kill shot on the target. They chase after the culprit only to discover it is Fancy Lee. Before they can question him D’avin gets the jump on them. Cue more shock...scuffle ensues and the two Level Sixes disappear without a trace.  

Is it Season 2 time yet.... I guess have they renewed it yet?

“It’s very hip right now to talk about how there’s ‘too much’ TV, but this descriptor is a bit narrow. There is certainly an overload in some kinds of television, but, until this summer, the space adventure category was barely even represented on television. Syfy changed that with the introduction of not one, but two new summer space-set dramas: Killjoys and Dark Matter. Some ink has been spilled pitting these two conceptually-similar shows against one another, but why can’t we have both? Why can’t we have more than two space dramas when not counting syndicated series?

As a genre, the space adventure series has a great capacity to engage our imaginations, promote exploration, and work through the very real social problems through the creation of a space locale that reflects our own society in vital ways — all while typically also being a lot of fun. In a television era filled with gritty prestige dramas full of unlikable characters, there’s something to be said for genre offerings that don’t make us choose between fun and socially-engaging.”

I'm reading that interview about Killjoys and I died a little inside when she said that Dutch and D'avin appreciate their chemistry now that they have realized they cant have a relationship...who am I kidding? I died a lot inside!

There is that gifset going around “Your hands can heal, your hands can bruise” and I just… can’t.

I mean I love Dutch Soldier dynamic for so many reasons, but them together right now would be the worst thing ever.

The show managed to build an unexpected and poignant storyline up until this point with their relationship. His hands bruised her. If we take away the sci-fi and the implants and think about how those things happen – how often do men say “I didn’t mean to, it wasn’t me, I’m so sorry”? And a woman forgives.

Not Dutch. 

There was a speculation that at the end of 1x09, in the original version/script they kissed, but it was edited post-production and voices were added, that’s why we have reaction shots, not the actual characters speaking. If you look close, there is a split second before the cut, where each of them leans toward the other, toward a kiss, so this is possible. I can’t express how happy I am that the producers changed their mind about this, that the kiss did not happen.

Dutch understands what happened to D’avin, but she doesn’t forgive. She realizes that she can’t hate him, can’t take revenge, because he’s a victim as much as her, but she’s angry and she doesn’t trust him with her life and her body (the knife throwing being the analogy of sexual penetration? wow, clever). She said, “I know it wasn’t you. But it was me. I can’t be okay with that.”

God I love this show.

And I keep believing that we will get ten seasons and that they will be together by third and the remaining seven will be about them kicking all the ass together, while Johnny and Pawter will be raising their triplets and Johnny will be fixing Lucy after each crazy run and bitching that they do not treat his girl right and Lucy will be resentful at first, that he left, but then she will understand that not everyone is a hero by killjoying, some people are heroes, because they can have a normal life and they are still best friends and everyone is happy, except for Alvis, but he’s a masochist and Pree has a new bar next to Belus’s cantor and Fancy is once again the designated asshole but now everybody loves him and he just doesn’t get it. *I’m crying now*

there’s a bigger theme that Emily (Andras) wrote in 109 that I adore, when Dutch is in D’avin’s room and it’s a side of him I haven’t seen, where he just seems very off his footing and lovely and vulnerable. Being able to take these sides of each other that we can now only see when they’re in each other’s company is very interesting to me dramatically.

“There has been a lot of embracing of the shorter TV season, but for a show as old-school as Killjoys in its mythology and/or warrant-of-the-week formula, this first season could have used a few more episodes to truly tell its tale. It is also worth noting that, as Lovretta mentions in that same Variety interview, she is used to telling a TV season story in 13 episodes. This episode feels like it could have been broken out over a few more and only improved upon for it. I’m calling a moratorium on the fad of talking about how much better TV is when it is done in fewer installments. If you want a shorter story, go to the movies. Serialized TV needs time to develop, especially when building an entire world like Killjoys is.”
