Rhûnrin terminology | Part 2: Peoples of Middle-earth

//Since Vatha-mun woke up my passion to keep on creating more words for Rhûnrin with this post, I thought I'd create some more words too. So get set for part 2, how do the Rhûnran call other people than themselves?

Phûn = North, Northern

Rhûn = East, Eastern

Khûn = South, Southern

Dhûn = West, Western (from Sindar dûn)

* The Rhûnran do not make a difference between the noun and adjective.

These are all collective terms and are not the specific names for a certain culture.

Phûnran = a man of the North

Phûnrain = men of the North

Dhûnran = a man of the West

Dhûnrain = men of the West

Khûnran = a man of the South

Khûnrain = men of the South

rain = men (as a race)

nêran = an elf (lit. fair not-man)

nêrain = elves

têran = a dwarf (lit. short not-man)

têrain = dwarves

hrêran = an orc (lit. dark not-man)

hrêrain = orcs

* They have no knowledge of Hobbits so there is no word for them.

Hrîuthair = Mordor (lit. dark Southern lands)

Khukhenna = Khand (lit. Southern desert)

Hârukhenna = Haradwaith (lit. far Southern desert)

Khuthair = Gondor (lit. Southern lands)

Dhunnithair = Rohan (lit. Western mountain-lands)

Dhundâr = Mirkwood (lit. Western forest)

Phuthair = Forodwaith (lit. Northern lands)

Dhunni = Misty Mountains (lit. Western mountains)

Hârdhunnithair = Dunland (lit. far-western mountain-lands)

Hârnêrathair = Eriador (lit. far elf-lands)

Some explanations:

Khûn shortens to hûn when it is used as a stem in the middle of a compound word and to ûn if the stem prior to it stats with an h.

All the compass points lose their elongation and the last -n when they are used in compound words. Same thing happens to all adjectives ending with -n, but adjectives hold on to their elongated vowels.

In fixed place names that are commonly used in the language, dheinni has shortened to -nni through lexicalization.

Rhûnrin terminology | Part 1: The People of Rhûn

ran = a person, a man, a collective term for a group of people identifying itself as one, comes from Sindarin adan

rain = plural of ran, a term for multiple groups of people identifying themselves as different from the others but part of the whole, comes from Sindarin edain

ranni = a wandering person, a wandering man, a collective term for a group of nomadic people identifying itself as one, comes from Sindarin adan and randir

rainni = plural of ranni, a term for multiple groups of nomadic people identifying themselves as different from the others but part of the whole, comes from Sindarin edain and randir

Rhûnran = an individual or one tribe identifying itself as one living in Rhûn, a man of Rhûn

Rhûnrain = a term describing all the individuals or all the different tribes living in Rhûn

Rhûnranni = an individual or a tribe living a nomadic life in Rhûn, a wandering man of Rhûn

Rhûnrainni = a term describing all the individuals and all the different tribes living a nomadic life in Rhûn

Rhûnranrin* = the specific dialect of one tribe

Rhûnrainrin* = all the different dialects of all the different tribes

Rhûnrannirin* = the specific dialect of one nomadic tribe

* Note that even though the different dialects do exist, the differences are only vague.
