Grabbing Ren had been instinct. Feelings that he had buried deep down long ago were being dug out against his will, clawing their way back into his chest. Ren’s arms were warm around him, wrapped around his waist like a vice.

Martyn crashed the boat against the river's edge and scrambled out, getting as far away from Ren’s arms as possible. He made a conscious effort not to appear strange in his movement, knowing that Ren was too observant for his own good. After all, Ren didn’t know.
