Ren was drinking some juice, trying to get his blood sugar up. He hated this feeling, it got him nauseous, dizzy, shaky, and all the other things that make you feel like you're going to pass out and die. "Okay, okay, don't describe that when I feel like I'm going to throw up," he said to Zach's words. His dexcom alert went off again, signaling his levels. He groaned, "Can you kindly throw that against the wall?"

"So," Ren started, "How's life been with two newborns?" he asked. "I bet they keep you both up at night. Have you been sleeping any?"

"I just took some insulin, I'll be good," Ren said, drinking some water. He took a seat next to Zach. His blood sugars have been pretty crazy from stress lately, he was really trying to ignore it all, but between that and the lasting effect from using dark magic to help Alex, it was doing some crazy things to his body. "You seem chipper today, any reason why?"

Ren was thankful that the day had been busy, with Zach and him back on shift together, Ren was trying not to be angry about their last conversation, but also ashamed and vulnerable. He had said things that he wished he said better, some he wished he didn’t, and others that he still stood by. The current call they had been on was a structure fire, and the building engulfed. Ren met with Zach on the second floor after their sweep, just as the chief was ordering them out. They started their way out as the floor under him collapsed at a weak spot, thankfully Ren managed to keep his upper body on the floor, “Zach!” he called over to his co-worker, trying the grab hold of any way to pull himself back up.

Ren had someone looking after Callista when he returned to work. He wasn’t excited about it, considering he still held some anger for Zach over how he treated Callista when she had been struggling. The entire day, Ren barely spoke two words to Zach, thankfully the day was filled with calls so they didn’t have to really speak, but the tension between them, especially coming from Ren, you could cut with a knife. That combined with Ren being stressed out lately which caused his blood sugars to go high, Ren had a pretty short fuse. He was biting his tongue before he knew he would say something he’d regret. Then came a lull in the day, and Ren was faced to be in the same room as Zach, who if Ren was being honest, didn’t look the greatest. Finally, Ren said something, “She’s safe by the way... Callista,” he said, as if he had to clarify who he had been talking about.
