EP Review – Black Friday Death Count "The Son Of Wolf Spider"

As one of the bands in our scene with one of the best band names, Black Friday Death Count‘s most recent release “The Son Of Wolf Spider” is a short but sweet effort that kills it front to back! Their hardcore, punk sound is loud and in your face through out the majority of this EP and where the tracks are quieter it has a calm before the storm kind of feel. The vocals have a raspy punk feel with a bit of soulful rock influence, the guitar riffs don’t necessarily reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t totally rad, the bass lines are way different than the guitar riffs in certain spots, making for a really interesting dichotomous feel between the two instruments and the drums are fast, precise and completely tight! If you’re looking for one hell of a hardcore EP, read on further because this one won’t let you down.

The EP starts off with the title track “The Son Of Wolf Spider” and right from the beginning there’s a swell of distorted guitars as it explodes! The guitar leads and punk vocals give you a sense of what you’re in for the next nine minutes. This track is fast as fuck as the distorted bass and crushing drums provide the backbone on this song! The next track “Batman” is way more hardcore than the last track. The starts and stops mixed with the awesome guitar leads totally make this track and before you know it the minute long song is over before it began. With an interesting change of pace “Elanor” is a slower more melodic track. The bass harmonics throughout the song mixed with female vocals and explosive, yet totally musical parts really bring the whole song together. To end the EP, “Backbreaker” picks the pace way back up and the gang vocals during the chorus totally kill it ending “The Son Of Wolf Spider” in a way awesome way! The breakdown on this track also rules so hard!

If you need an afternoon wake up, Black Friday Death Count‘s quick and ferocious EP will definitely give you the burst of energy you’re looking for! “The Son Of Wolf Spider” is a tremendous effort that shows it’s power as well as an emotional side in just under ten minutes! They could have recorded like six other filler songs and the album would still rule because of these four tracks, but they cut out all of the fat and did it right on this EP! Their next show is up in Doylestown at Siren Records with Sovereign, Repellers, L.M.I. & He’s Alright two Saturdays from now, May 30th. If you have a car or have a friend who does this would absolutely worth taking a road trip for as all of these bands totally rule!
