An unnecessary and totally benign defense of studying:

Why do people not like studying? I think the typical answer is that studying is lonely, boring, and sedentary. However:

A. Yes, studying is generally a lone activity. However, this can be ‘rectified’ with circle study groups or even just a person sitting away from you at the table. Not to mention the general activity surrounding a studier in a library or coffeeshop. Studying should not be relegated to the home. This causes the loneliness to linger. Solitude should also be accepted in order to advance oneself in life. Constant extroversion leads to an unintellectual life filled with drama. Studying in solitude should be celebrated, not eye-rolled.

B. Yes, studying can be boring. You just have to work through it. Find ways to entertain yourself. Find a studying method that works best. Give yourself rewards. Don’t work too hard, but don’t waste your time. When studying does become a struggle, stop. Leave. Do something else. Don’t make yourself hate studying by going too hard. 

C. Yes, studying can be sedentary. Bike or walk to a library or park or coffeeshop. Do something. It will help you retain information. Pick up a podcast and listen as you travel. While you study, twiddle your fingers. Walk around your area. Doodle. It’s sedentary, but not lazy. 

Working through the general pitfalls of studying will help you become a better person. Less stress. More knowledge. I believe that, like meditation, it helps me (at least) reach a more peaceful life.

I understand if anyone disagrees with me, obviously speaking from a place where I can study effectively, it is hard for me to empathize completely with those who can’t. This defense if completely opinion and I am willing to bend at any other arguments.

This actually isn’t bad. Don’t freak out.

I feel such a sense of freedom. Maybe it’s just spring and I’m excited and positive (although I know there will be more bad weather and dark low nights soon...). Regardless, I just can’t wait for the rest of my life.

I’m excited to stay up until 2AM studying for Art History or European History. I’m excited to dive into Crime and Punishment articles and Wuthering Heights explanations. (I’m less excited about Calculus, but I’m always up for a struggle.) I’m excited to paint when I watch history videos in the background. I’m excited to graduate. I’m excited to figure out the 1/2 rule. I’m excited to do the musical and work with my friends. I’m excited for the summer, when we’re all here. I’m excited to binge on shows. I’m excited to go into the night and stay outside until whatever time. I’m excited to drive and spend money and take care of my grandmother. I’m excited to move out. And go to college and pack and get into college and etc. 

Spring has such an effect on me. The warmth makes me want to be productive.

I’m excited to be productive.
