Belphegor had brought her into the Empty on the pretense that she was here to talk to her father. And initially she was, but the closer she got to her father’s new residence the colder her feet got. Could she really do this? Maybe she should wait for Levi. He could go in there with her and maybe buffer zone the conversation. Yeah, that’s what she’d do. She’d wait for Levi. She turned quickly on her heels to go back to the palace. The walk back took her through a garden path where it was always spring no matter the season. As she admired the greenery, she spotted her aunt in the distance. “Hi Auntie,” she waved as she approached. “How long are you here for today?”

Those words shook every single cell of Ruby’s body & her cheeks didn’t take long to display shades of pink. There was the ethical reminder that the growing tension between them was not right, but they couldn’t help themselves. Or, at least, Ruby tried to pretend and she did wonderfully, until she heard her superior address such words to her. Gaze peered up at him, the blue sky hues meeting his own. 

The same thought that crossed her mind perhaps almost every single time they were alone, in his office, or somewhere carrying out their duties. 

“R-Rick..” Her soft voice pronounced his name again through small stutter, almost used to calling him by his name, despite still finding it odd. “You’re the superior.. You can decide when, even if you know, it’s not ethical.” Her role as a police officer was playing a part in Ruby’s words, but the remaining one longed for it. A nervous chuckle slipped, fingers nervously tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. “But I can’t lie to you.. I don’t care about ethical at this point..”
