Another find from last Sunday. This is a vintage Replogle Comprehensive Globe measuring 16". It is a floor model set within a wooden stand. It dates from somewhere between 1950-1960. It is in mint condition. Really cool addition for a library, living room or den. Last Sunday I also snapped up this 1980's Replogle 12 inch World Horizon Series Globe on a fantastic lucite base!!! I was surprised it was still sitting there at closing time. Both the globe and the base are in immaculate condition!!! I find it fascinating seeing the older names on countries before they started to rename them. For instance the 'Union of Soviet Socialist Republics' no longer exist with that moniker. The Soviet Union, also known unofficially as Russia, was a socialist state in Eurasia that existed from 1922 to 1991. That was your brief history lesson for today. Check out old globes when you see them and try and find countries whose names have changed over time. Found this fantastic mid-century Replogle 12" library Globe at the Long Beach Antique Market on Sunday. It needed a really good clean and polish. It came out beautifully!!! The globe itself is glass and it lights up.
