James had caught wind of there being a large party in California. Somehow, he got the Doctor to drop him off and Nine would go to some galactic meeting James thought was going to be oh so boring. He got to the party on time, exactly on time. But, less then two hours later, he had had about two beers, one whiskey, and was pretty sure there was alcohol in the punch. Thanks to be half timelord, he wasn't drunk yet. But, that didn't stop him from noticing the good looking boy across the room.

Amanda had been travelling on her own for awhile when she realized she hadn't been to America. She used her Manipulator to go to what looked like Vegas. She went to the bank, got her money transferred to dollars and explored. It didn't take her long to realize it was mostly gambling. She tried her hand at poker, but found Black Jack surprisingly easier. She decided after a few rounds to go get a drink, coke and vodka, at the bar. She sat next to Dimitri without intention, just chance.
