What I wore this week. October, 2017.
What I wore this week. October 2017. Part two.
DB vs. SB
Over on Styleforum, the honorable TweedyProf suggested that a boldly striped repp tie sometimes works better with a little more coverage – the smaller aperture of a double-breasted jacket bringing a rather intricate tie into sharper focus. To prove his point, the man himself wore a blue linen-cotton DB coat, BB #1-ish tie, and a university-striped shirt.
I figured I’d whole-heartedly steal his idea, since I’m #blessed to own a pair of navy hopsack blazers: a DB and an SB. So I decided to wear nearly the same rig as he, and try it with both types of jacket.
I can see how the DB coat has a calming effect: the boldness of the tie is much less striking with less of it visible. And yet, I think I prefer this rig with the single-breasted blazer. I think my tie was bold enough to break the system.
The good Professor was thinking of strong, yet subtle tie like this:
... while I, thinking “go big or go home,” went with a tie that could fairly be called “loud.” There’s a lot happening there. It’s downright jaunty – and I think the more-relaxed single-breasted blazer suits that air better.
