Happy Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
I have said it before and I will say it again. Lucifer proves that shipping is in a lot of ways about representation. Lucifer is canonically bisexual and who do we ship him with? A woman. Why is that you ask? Because I already feel represented on screen and therefore don't need to force a m|m or w|w ship. We have Maze and Eve for that and we have Lucifer referencing his bisexuality all the time.
Shipping is not necessarily about fetishizing. A lot of Shippers are part of the LGBTQ+ community and just want to see themselves represented on screen.
(That being said you can obviously ship whoever you like. In my opinion that's also the reason why we don't have ship wars here. Due to the personal connection LGBTQ+ people have with non canon ships they can get really defensive)

Brad Zipprich, Susan Monk, and Rhiannon Frater talk to writer/director Jen Derwingson about the latest episode of Z Nation. How did she avoid Native American stereotypes? How did the Native American actors help shape the episode? Who is the easiest character to write for? Listen & find out!
be careful with the way you write middle eastern characters. remember oversexualizing them is part of orientaliszation and contributes to dehumanizing middle eastern people. this is important for both male and female characters. make sure that you’re not writing them as more sexual than any other character you would normally write. thanks!
