The year was 1993. Young G from Studewood decided to live with my mom after my parents divorce. Hence, the move to W. Gulfbank, Park Lane Apartments to be exact. Although Eisenhower HS was only a gate jump away I drove around the corner to school lol. I initially didn’t have many male friends being I was rocking my Studewood gear on a daily (And we had a few wars with Acres Homes). But, it didn’t take long after a few altercations and a lil wholesale to be accepted. It was on this block I would meet connects to both music and the street. Some of my best friends still to this day I met on The Bank. Picking back up on my #WalkWithMe post...411 Gammon Drive. One street over from G Street (Glenburnie) where Big Mike and crew gave everyone a nickname. It was very seldom these boys would refer to me as E-Love like others, on this block I was “Slash” 🤣. Freshman and sophomore year at Booker T. Here I threw my first block party, one of the biggest the hood had seen. I bust a lot of heads on the pool table we had in the garage. Also here, my little sister lost her best friend to a house fire down the street. I also lost my best friend Cedric Jones who had practically moved in to homicide. Cops also raided and took my daddy to jail from this address. By the time I hit middle school at M.C. Williams we had moved once again to Nora’s Lane off North Main, right when you pass over Crosstimbers before you get to Whitney. I’m writing my own raps, folders filled of them. But rap would take a close seat behind puberty lol 😂Just about every house on Nora’s Lane was occupied by a member of my family on my dad’s side. 5050 Yale the name may have changed to protect the guilty but Barkwood is what we OG’s call it. Over half my life and lessons would be learned here. After leaving JFK after the 3rd grade and going to Hohl (both no longer in original locations) from Delz Street briefly by the Sanchez Family to being told by Mrs. Smith don’t walk in the grass in Barkwood. The next stop for me would be my first out of Studewood. Hello to #EugeneStreet right next door to my Grandma Rose (RIP 👵🏽). Grew up labeling this street as in #TrinityGarden although I’ve heard some purist say Central Garden I’d never heard of that. Our duplexes was right in between the Bailey & Johnson homes, I grew up with much love for these families. #RIPFLOYD I also remember my cousin Dewayne (RIP) accidentally killing Baldy (RIP) while we were young playing with guns.
