What if Japan became a Republic?
from /r/vexillology Top comment: The field uses the particular shade of red from the sun on the current Japanese flag to represent the Republican colour. At the center is the Paulownia symbol which serves as the current symbol of the government of Japan but was passed down to it by the Imperial Family. In a sense, it acts as a symbol for the transfer of power from one institution to another and is transitory in nature.
