Letter I sent to Sen. Risch, March 19, 2018
I am writing in favor of your recent vote to roll back many of the regulations passed under the Dodd-Frank legislation. I know you may have been criticized for giving major banks a big giveaway while they earn record profits, but they just don't see that this is a long-term plan to get Republicans back into power after probable swing elections in 2018 and 2020.
As you know, President Trump's administration thus far has been very shaky and his approval ratings are at record lows. At this point, his reelection is very unlikely and and worse, that many Republican members like you of Congress will probably be voted out too.
As such, I am happy to see the Republican long game: pull back banking regulations to such an extent that it makes another severe recession more likely, but not too soon -- in a few years, after 2020 perhaps!
It is brilliant for you and the other Republicans to vote to create the kind of environment where a deep recession is likely just as a new Democrat president comes into office! We'd be able to blame him for all the problems, come back into Congress in 2022, and retake the presidency in 2024!
All the damage President Trump is doing will last only four years because we made sure a new recession would hit just at the right time! I love it.
Thank you again for your support of the Dodd-Frank reforms.
