Angst Prompt #17 :: “i don’t remember what a fight, or a reason, so what happened? why did we break up?”
nothing changed between squad 13 as the months trailed on from papa and the housekeepers not appearing. everything was fine until the only sakura hiro founded that bloomed, died.
“how long are they going to keep this up?” kokoro looked at goro, who had worry plastered all over his face. his hair was ruffled from lack of sleep and constant fear of what was going to happen next. he only expressed his stress to kokoro, who was like a mother figure to them, because if anyone else saw him this way then he wouldn’t be the ‘best man goro’ would he?
“i don’t know...” kokoro fiddled with her fingers, watching herself move and twiddle her polished nails back and forth. goro looked up at her. she looked at him. they could hear cursing in the other room.
“i don’t know what the hell you think this is but it’s not ok!” ichigo went for a punch but only slightly missed hiro’s face. zero two, frustratedly and extremely aggressively, reached for ichigo’s still clinched fist and shoved it back to her face.
“shit—“ ichigo mumbled. the crack of her nose was loud and vigorous, making ikuno and mitsuru flinch.
“zero two...don’t” hiro places a delicate hand on her shoulder only to get a glare from his darling. as they glared, no one moved. it was an intense chess game occurring but no one knew the next move, not even their own.
goro opened the door to the entry room with kokoro following behind. kokoro still looked at her fiddling hands, she glanced at mitsuru but only for a second before looking at the fight and back at her hands.
“what’s going on?” goro didn’t express any sort of feeling, just pure dead plant of emotionless defeat. ichigo, who now was reaching for her nose, looked over at her franxx partner in wincing pain. worry returned to the scarred boy but only to return to his cold self that no one recognized.
“hiro...deal with klaxosaur while i will deal with ichigo. everyone else go find zorome, miku and futoshi, stay in your rooms and don’t leave,” this command in his voice with frightening for everyone besides zero two. she just looked at him and walked up to her room, not making a single sound.
zero two was considered a klaxosaur instead of anything else to everyone. her horns and fangs began to grow again and her nails became claws. she was viewed as a monster instead of the bright and peppy human everyone remembered from the beginning of these months without papa and the housekeepers. goro turned cold and stressed as everything became his fault when they stopped getting rations and blaming papa wasn’t helping. ichigo began to fade away from team leader stop light as everything got to her; she began to stop talking unless frustrated or angered. ikuno began to fade with ichigo, who now never speaks a word. she reads her books excessively and makes no human contact. mitsuru and kokoro are the only two that have kept their ground; kokoro looks after goro and zero two while mitsuru does the same for ichigo, ikuno and hiro. miku was on the verge of death after her hair turned white and she began aging at excelled rates. she is constantly in bed and if she is not, kokoro helps her to-and-fro. zorome and futoshi spend most of their time outside, but not together. zorome can’t mentally deal with the stress levels of the squad nor miku’s constant death situation. futoshi has practically no skin left on his bones from his eating disorder that sprouted a month into this. hiro? he was trying his best to be zero two’s best darling and the big happy guy everyone needed. squad 13 was dying and there was so cure to fix it.
“zorome and futoshi are fishing,” kokoro states after looking outside the window to see a note left by the boys. goro only nodded.
“hiro go to the klaxosaur,” hiro didn’t look his pained friend in the eye as those words left goro’s mouth. hiro simply walked up the crumbling stairs to zero two’s room where he found her looking out the window.
fresh scratches decorated the walls and blood painted the floors. the red and blue colors began finding their way into the floor as if it was meant to be there.
“zero two?” hiro’s voice was soft, keeping everything peaceful for his darling. zero two flinched turning her head slightly to have hiro in her peripheral vision, her glare still penetrated his body. she grunted in response.
“what’s the matter?” he slowly stepped forward causing zero two to turn more to him, her mouth opening a little bit displaying a glistening fang. she proceeded to grunt.
“why don’t we talk about thi—“ zero two cut hiro off my quickly flinging herself around and clutching his neck. hiro could feel her nails seep into his skin where they had dug in the previous week. unfortunately, this sensation was so familiar it stopped hurting. zero two noticed hiro had no need to escape her grasp as he used to, as if he was so used to her being like this he got over it and accepted it. this boiled her anger more and she gripped harder leading to hiro to cough. instinctively, she let go. there was still a part of her that could not kill him but there was a part of her that wanted to.
hiro reaches for his neck and looked zero two directly in the eyes. he was not afraid. he was not worried. he was just like goro, cold and emotionless.
“i don’t remember a fight, or a reason, so what happened? why did we break up?” hiro looked at his darling most intensely “what did i do that was horrible that you treat me like this again? was it that the stress got to you?” zero two lost all expression and simply looked deep into hiro’s human soul.
“i’m a klaxosaur remember!” zero two screamed. those were the first words she said for the first time for a month. “i am just some stupid blue-blooded klaxosaur that this whole fucking squad wants to annihilate! i—“ she made quotation marks with her hands ”—broke up with you because of how i am being treated!” she stopped. zero two turned around, and punched the window glass out. again. for the 34th time.
the shatters fell on the grass below. scattered, broke and in rumble. a perfect display of them.
